Revising my sub setup - help?

I currently have this amp (MTX Thunder 6500D):

Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Stereo, Home Theater, Speakers, Digital Cameras

Hooked up to a single 15 inch PowerAcoustik Mofo. It's running in mono, and I think the Mofo is too much for the amp (problems with overheating and such).

Would trading the Mofo for two Rockford Fosgate Punch P2's, 12 inches, be better for the amp? I know that they would sound better, audio-quality wise. Any idea how the loudness would compare to what I have now? I'm assuming a bit quieter? I really don't know much about this so I'm kind of winging it with my guesses.

I've never heard a mofo, but I do know they're dual 2 ohm.

You probably have it hooked up to 1 ohm and that amp isn't 1 ohm stable.

Either a new amp that will handle a 1 ohm load, or subs that will have a final load of 2 ohms

Or you could wire the sub pos-neg pos-nog (series) and wire it at 4 ohms but you'll have less power

It is hooked up 1ohm, that's my problem I know.

But I'm just trading the Mofo for two 12" Punch P2's, is that a good trade? Will those two subs work better with my amp?

So what does this mean? Exact same heat problems, but the subs would be louder?

the heat problems are because your amp isn't designed to handle 1 ohm. Where is your gain set on the amp?
