RE's new sub

i never said they copied mtx, but just look at them. the surroud is identical, the basket has the same shape, and the magnet is reletivly the same look. now i know looks have nothing to do with performance for the most part, but they look similar.

As was said, they dont use the same parts. With what RE is doing with this new sub, specifically the excursion capabilities, you dont simply pull existing off the shelf parts and assemble them into this new sub.

The frame is custom by RE (I remember them saying the frame redesign held the project back a while ago). The closest frame Ive seen to this one is the GZ Plutonium, now that frame was similar. The magnet, well the RE sub uses much larger diameter magnets than the 9500 (approx 10" in diameter), the 9500 being triple stacked and I believe the new RE is double stacked (but again bigger magnets). The new RE sub also has new/custom top and back plates, so I dont understand where you see the similarities to the 9500 motor structure.

The surround is the only closely similar feature I see, and that tall surround design is hardly unique to the 9500. *shrug*

Right..you realize how many different materials go into to tooling a surround? Not only is it not the same, it does not preform the same. It's designed to actually use the surround that it has been given...instead of just being there along for the ride....

Yes the mounting depth is extreme, but what can you expect when you start pushing those kinds of excursion numbers. But I agree, alot of people dont realize you aren't gonna plop a couple of these in the back of your civic.

Not to sound rude but im pretty sure the mounting depth will be more than 11.75". Look how much larger it is than a 15" XXX which has a pretty large mounting depthe. I do not knw the specific mounting depth of an 15" XXX but i do believe it is somewhere around 10" give or take.

For reference Mounting depth on the MT 18 is right around 11 3/4 if i remember measuring from last night...

Naw its coo man i wasnt to sure on the exact numbers either but looks like i may of been wrong but you better believe im gonna try and see if it will fit in my car and if i can get a good deal on one ITS ON LOL even if it means goodbye to my trunk

I just put a tape on my XXX 15's, their mounting depth is just over 9 inches. Judging from the pics, the new sub is a good 3 to 4 inches deeper than that. Its easily as deep as the LVS.

I just called RE (to order my XXX mids) and talked to Mark. He said he has no idea where the guy (ngsm) got the info that the new sub would be called XXX and the current XXX would be called something else. He said they have no plans to do that and that notion made no sense to him either. *shrug*

edit: He also said the tooling and parts are all done on the new sub, but the engineers are still tweaking the design a bit because they feel they can improve it. He confirmed the new ship date is expected to be June or July.
