Putting a sub against seat hurt performance??

I'm thinkin about takin out all of the interior accesories in my ranger and building a box that will be as wide as my cab so give the subs maximum amount of air space.

I planned on running 2 10s. My question is if i put the subs completely against the seat so that the cone is hitting, is this going to hurt the performance?

The seats are made of cloth so its soft if that matters.

Any help is greatly appreciated

I put a system in a standard cab ranger before. I did what you are saying. There is not much else you can do. The bass sounded good and there was no damage to the speaker. But, my box was only 7 inches deep and the amount I had to move the seat up was a tad too much. I'm 5-10'. I would think a 9" deep box will be too much.

I think a better option would be to get a set of bucket seats and build a center consol / enclouser or go with 2 -8" subs. I would do with the latter. Trust me the 8s will be fine for the small space of a pickup cab. (been there, done that!)

If you are after monster bass, do what my friend did and just throw a box in the bed under a tonneu cover with 12's or larger in it. (make sure you have insurance on them!!)

not only will it hurt your performance, it will probably kill your sub.

when the cone constantly hits something that keep sit from moving fluidly as it should, it build resistance, which builds heat, and with in (not much) time your sub's voice coils will FRY.

now if the subs are not hitting the seat but are still very very close, it'll affect the performance and cause certain frequencies to respond differantly.

i haven't altered the interior any yet except takin out the plasic thing on the bottom and i can get a 10" in there fine. the box I have now is 9" at bottom depth and 7" at top.

the box i'm building will be same just 8" at top and i'll be sure to get a grill for it. cause i'm gonna be a L7 in there in the meantime.

but great suggestions guys thanks a lot
