People with 15" and 18" sub experience.

Buy a large diameter sub with a lot of excursion potential (xmax) and mount it sealed. No more worries about port displacement or PR costs. I really like vented systems too, but sometimes a sealed setup just makes more sense (like in an "SQL" setup with limited space).

I think it's a great idea. an 18 with 2 15" or a 15" sub with an 18" passive. If money is of no concern I would do a handful of 10"s and an 18 or something like that.. It would look great.
10's in the right type of box can work wonders. 2 10's are perfect for me.

You will need to post build log pics of this^
btw those TBI tweets you sold me are money. Been enjoying those since day 1
Yeah, I'm actually going to take my time on this build since I don't plan on switching out gear as much this time. Those TBI tweets I thought sounded pretty good, do you have them on axis? Glad you're enjoying them bro.

I was going to say PR as well, but you'd need a PAIR of 18" PRs for a single 18 and that adds a bit of cost. Personally I think if you get a more efficient sub and do 1000-1500W you'd be the same place as a monster power handler and throwing 3K at it.
The cost will definitely start getting up there with the PR's but to save a good amount of space it might be worth it. That Avalanche 18" that PSi built sure would fit the bill well with some PR's. I might have to see about that combo.

I have a 15" sdc2.5 and I'm loving it so much. I think an hdc would be insane.
My main concern is SQ, I'd like to be able to go to an SQ comp and compete than turn around and do an SPL comp. The HDC would definitely work well as far as SPL goes.

Our new TC Pro-5100 and SPL-5150 will fit in tiny ported boxes or with passives (TC VMP's work very well and you only need 1 in most cases because they throw almost 4" peak to peak) and I'm sure take enough power to reach very high SP levels in a car. Considering the sensitivity they will actually be 3-4dB ahead of most other 18" drivers off the same power. They are also very linear (underhung motors) so they say at high sensitivity at higher power levels and have very low distortion. What they are not is cheep, but if you're looking for 18's that get loud and sound good and fit in small places and are cheep you might want to give up a one or two of those variables.
