I'm working on an all out SQL system and I'm having a difficult time deciding on which sub I'll be running. I'm looking for a 15" or 18" sub that sounds great, needs a ported box around 4.5c/ft max, and can take around 2500-3000wrms. I'll be spending around $500 max on the sub. Any recommendations from experience would be much appreciated. Doesn't really matter but here's a list of the equipment going in:

HU - Alpine W205/H701

Frontstage - Scanspeak Discovery 8's (in door midbass), Discovery 6 1/2's (in kicks for more midbass - experimenting- will also be ran HP for when I want to get really loud), Discovery 4's (in a-pillars), Discovery tweeters (in a-pillars).

Amps for frontstage - (2) JL Audio G6600 6ch. amps one for each side of the car and a JL Audio G4500 4ch. amp for the last set of speakers.

Amp for sub - Undecided

Sub - Undecided

NOt sure but its a **** good option.. If you are looking into two subs FI BL 18's or 15's would do you good to but that might run you over $500 so im going to have to say DC level 4 since they are ***
I only really have room for 1 15" or a small ported for an 18", about 4.5 - 5c/ft max.

get a new SS xxx-15 and call it a day, it will slam on that amount of space, also has probably the best sq youll find in that type of spl 4nch vc category..... but thats just my suggestion..not biased at all *cough* *COUGH*

a btl or DC lvl 5 would be good as well

I don't think many high powered subs out there match the Nightshade in SQ. I've heard the Lvl 4, both versions of it, and it sounded *alright* at best. Heard the BL's, not bad either and I can't speak on the SS as I've never heard that one. BTL and LVL 5 would be a joke if your goal is a sub that "sounds great"

For what your looking for I would recommend the NS, especially if your tuned low (which you should be). Lvl XL 4 would be my second choice though, I'm sure in the right box it could sound pretty good

All my experience was with 15's...

My vote is the level 4 XL. It's what I would do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what type of music do you mostly listen to?

HDC with alum coils would take that power and they have a rather tight/punchy sound to them which can sound very good on most types of music.
