peal and seal, or other deadening under the hood?

i wanna put some deadening under my hood to keep it cool, i have a black truck which gets really hot in the texas summer, im on a budget and i have a ton of peal and seal. Could i use that to line my hood with? any disadvantages to this? would i have to go with another type of material?

I think the engine bay would be far too hot. The tar would prolly melt and then fall on your engine and burn. Not good.
