ok the sub on the right blew. so ive got to send it in for warranty.

while im waiting i decided to put a really old infinity perfect 10.1 that i have.(my first sub ever) its blown btw.

i didnt hook the old sub up im just using it to seal the hole.

i thought it would sound bad but it actouly pounds pretty hard.

can any damage be done only running one sub in a ported enclosure thats twice as big as it should be?

i thought i read somewhere that the bigger the enclosure the easier it is for the sub to move.

i just dont want to mess the only good sub i have left.

what do you guys think??

Just watch and listen. If you notice any over excursion/distortion then turn it down. If you just keep the volume easy for the time being it should be fine until the new one comes in.

Not sure about double the enclosure space damaging your sub. My concern is that you are now using your amp to power one sub rather than two. So, you may overpower it. I would recommend taking it easy with the power until you get the second sub back.

well i turned it up to the level that i set my gains with on the hu. and it sounds healthy so i guess im woried about nothing.

the box is 2ft3 proted to 35hz

with only one sub what is it ported to now??

just curious

However, the impedance is now different aswell......amp should be putting out about half the power it was (unless he had the subs in series)

True...I thought about that, but we really don't know. So, I figured it would be a safe idea to keep the power down.

Well.....without taking into account the passive radiator you added to the box; the number of subs doesn't change the tuning frequency. The only thing affecting the tuning frequency is the box size, which would have changed by a tenth or two of a cubic foot by removing one sub (i.e. tuning wouldn't change by more than a few tenths of a hertz). And, since you dropped another sub in the box; tuning would have remained the same.

However, you added a non-powered sub to the box, which will act as a passive radiator (basically act as another port).............

i still think it's ported to the same hz because the size/length/overall dimensions of the port doesn't change so it should still be tuned to the same thing... atleast this is what my brain came up sorry if im wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

nvm... you beat me to it! lol oh well

i dont have to worry about givving the the sub 2 much power. i used a dmm but when switching from 1 sub (4ohm) to 2 subs (2ohm) the voltage the amp puts out stays the same 37.4v.

hope that makes sense^^^
