One of my sub like, went out...

I noticed my subs didn't seem as loud, so I looked back there, and only one was playing. I was like, crap, I must've blown it. Then later on, it got a lot louder, and it was back on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif And then it went off, and then came back on again randomly, and now it's been not working for a day and a half.

Does this sound like a problem with the sub itself or a loose cable somewhere? Is there any kind of part that could mess up and make the sub randomly come on/cut off? The amp is still working fine (no protect light or anything) and the sub looks fine, it's just it's not on. I'm thinking it's just a lose cable because I had to wrap the wire on the sub terminals because I didn't have any little clip thingies that fit it.

So, what do you guys think? Blown sub or what?

Thank God. I just didn't have time to get it out the truck and stuff right now and wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanks for the quick responses n_n

God, I decided to check it anyway (so now I'm running late, oh well >_>) and all the connections were secure. The wires to the sub were connected and the wires to the terminals were connected fine. And when I think I need to clarify this, when I said they came on and off, when it initially went out, it didn't come back on again but for a few seconds, and it did this a few times randomly (like at different times of the day completely). So it's not like it was on for a day and off for a day, it was off and on for only a few seconds.

I don't know if that really changes anything, but all the connections are fine and my other sub worked fine on both sets of power cables. The sub didn't look damaged in any way when I took it out, nothing looked messed up =/

Gawd, someone please help me out here. I don't see how it could be a cable problem now, because they're all secure =(

And I'm off now, so uh, I'll read the responses when I get back from work...

Maybe his sub is bottoming out since he said his sub comes back and goes every few seconds or something.
Bottoming out makes a very loud noise, and doesn't stop the speaker from playing. I would know. Try playing a 12" in 4.5cubes sealed at loud volumes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

take the subs out of the box.

wire them up without an enclosure.

turn the gain on the amplifier down.

see what happens. it might be the connectors on the box itself that are flawed. it might be the connection of the tinsel lead to the subs termianls. it might be the connection between the voice coil and the tinsel lead.

but i highly doubt it is a blown sub or a blown amp.

intermittent problems are usually wiring issues or heat issues.

Connection between the terminals and tinsels FTW. That's exactly what my JL 12w0 did to me. The tinsel was soldered back on by the guy I bought it off of. It played fine for about 4 months, and then it just would randomly cut out and then come back on until one day it stopped playing completely. Now, if you hold the leads from a DMM to the terminals, you get nothing. If you hold the leads to the tinsels, you get a reading. If I can get ahold of a soldering iron, I'll be in there, and my sub will be finding a new home for cheap. I'd check everything with the DMM first if I were you.

Good luck.

Yea, it took me a little longer than planned, but I finally was able to get it out of the box and play with it today...

Unfortunately, the box isn't the problem. I hooked the sub directly to the amp w/o a box and it still only played when it felt like it (and it seemed I always had to gently push down on it for it to start playing, then after a while it would just stop again). It's really annoying, but since it plays sometimes that means it's definitely not blown, right? Should I contact AA, or does it sound like something I can fix? I looked at the terminals on the sub and all the stuff looked like it was connected just fine, but one of them looked slightly corroded or something (it was like a brown rusty looking spot).

Ah well, I just emailed AA, so I'll see what they have to say. Maybe if I'm lucky they'll send me some of those new ones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

I just happened to see this. It sounds like a connection issue on the driver. I apologize for that. There will be a brand new Assassin 8 like yours boxed up for you and shipping out tomorrow. I keep spares around long after we run out of stock in case we have a sitaution like this. I'll try to cram an AA hat into the box too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Sorry again for the inconvenience.

All the best,
