Hello, Im kinda new here, but I come here somewhat often looking for advice on how to do things properly. So my question is, Im about to buy a Alpine Type-R SWR 1242D 12" Subwoofer for my Ford Zx2 (average to small trunk). I had 2 Rockford 12" P1's, but they werent up to par as I wanted, so I was told one Type-R should blow them both away, am I correct? If so, I need a little help with a box idea, because all this talk about 'bottoming out' and destroying the coils, spiders, etc has got me scared to buy a subwoofer now, bc I bought my Rockfords as a package deal with a dual enclosure. Now, Im not 100% sure about tuning to the point where I should go any 'louder' or 'more', but I have an idea of it.

I think buying a box perfect for my subwoofer would be my easy way out, but reading upon alot of this forums, I dont think I can buy one that will make my sub sound great. I use my stereo for everyday use, and I always play it loud, so loud I want my mirrors shaking and I wanna feel it hitting my back. (Im hearing impaired, so a little vibration makes things better for me, lol, and I know its ironic Im making my hearing worse.)

Can someone explain to me how I should go about this, in detail, becaue Im sorry, Ill admit Im a n00b, used the forum search looking for anything Alpine Type-R that will suit me, and nothing really helped, but Ill really appreciate it if someone helped me out.

Im not sure if I want ported or sealed, I had experience with sealed, for the rockfords, and for those, they sounded better than ported, but Im not sure about the Type-R.

I will be having my back seats down that majority of the time, for show and for better 'feel' of the music. I covered my whole car in dynamat also.

As far as I know, I will be using the popular Alpine MRP M650 600RMS amplifier for the subwoofer. Im not also entirely sure how to go about hooking them up to 600RMS for 2ohms, compared to 400RMS for 4ohms, so maybe someone can explain that to me? If not its ok, considering this is a enclosure thread.

Well, the enclosure/box is what Im mainly concered/nervous about doing, so if you can help me out, I'd appreciate. Thanks guys!!

PS: This is a great forum. :)

What are the specs of your trunk, go measure them real quick and post the results. Once we get that we can give you a design of a great enclosure that will give you what your looking for.

theres that

If you have room, go ported, maybe 2-2.5 cubic feet

I ran that exact setup your considering (with the 600w amp) with a box built to alpine's specs and it hit pretty nicely

Have you bought the amp yet? Mine is just sitting in its box because I don't have use for it anymore since I added a second type r and bought a bigger amp

Wow, thanks for the amazing fast responses. Unfortunately, I wont be able to measure my car trunk right now, as it is dark and cold here, but I can tomorrow. What I can say is, it fit a dual Q-Logic enclosure towards the back fine, with a little less than a foot of space from the box to the rear panel, and the sides had about a foot each, if that helps? Im sorry, lol. Are we going for ported or sealed here?

Thanks!!

PS: I have not bought the amp either, still worried about the box first.

-Also, if your interested I can sell you my amp for a good price......mine's in mint condition, no scratches or anything, and hasn't been used much. I can take pics if needed. I will be getting my new stuff installed Thursday

PM me if your interested

I dont know, when I had the Rockfords, sealed made my whole car vibrate, and when I cut a shitty drilled-out fist-sized hole in the back for each sub part (I know I know, shitty idea) it sucked, so I sealed them back up. But I just dont see how if I did the ported idea correct, it'd be lower/bassier? Because it was an insane difference from my sealed and shitty-holed cut port on the Rockfords. I dont know? lol.

yo dude if u havnt bought the amp yet dont cuz 600rms is not enought UNLESS thats wat u want... just saying if u want it to be loud 1000rms+

I dont understand, the P1's I had were putting out about 175RMS each, and it did some shaking in my car (mainly because of the Dynamat), so combined with 175RMS and another, thats about 350RMS from my subs alone, correct? And you say 600RMS, which is twice as much, isnt loud enough? Thats kinda hard to believe? I dont know? Plus, Im on a budget amp-wise, so I cant go too much. All I want is something that will definitely hit better than 2 P1's and sound better and louder.

he said he DOESNT want to burn voice coils.........unless you have a good nose to smell that kinda stuff, your real easy on your gains, or your experienced, i wouldnt recommend sending no 1000w to a single type r
