One Alpine Type-R SWR 1242D Enclosure Help

I dont understand, the P1's I had were putting out about 175RMS each, and it did some shaking in my car (mainly because of the Dynamat), so combined with 175RMS and another, thats about 350RMS from my subs alone, correct? And you say 600RMS, which is twice as much, isnt loud enough? Thats kinda hard to believe? I dont know? Plus, Im on a budget amp-wise, so I cant go too much. All I want is something that will definitely hit better than 2 P1's and sound better and louder.
Yeah if your on a budget, then the alpine amp will be great, its even technically overpowering, but you could obviously get more power but for the money you will be fine with the alpine. If you have the cash, you can go with hifonics, they are a good budget amp

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16367

that will give your type r around 825-850 watts at 2 ohm. If you were ever to get another one though, you can run them at a 1 ohm load and give em probably 550rms because hifonics is overrated on their power

Haha @ jj4475. I do kinda feel an urge to go for more than 600RMS now...

RMS Power Range : 450-1200 Watts

Thats the Hifonics RMS specs, how do I know what RMS I'd be at? That amp does kind of really appeal to me, its only $50 more compared to a MRP M650 Alpine. Ill go for that amp if anyone can help me out with ideas.

As for the enclosure, sorry for straying away from the topic, but Ill get on that tomorrow when I get the measurements of my trunk.

Thanks.

Ok, I was reading amp reviews on the Hifonics 1206, and it said I would need a capacitor to prevent my alternator from blowing. Now Im REALLY scared to purchase something. My Rockfords slightly dimmed my headlights at night, and this will probably dim everything. And I dont know how to do the capacitor deal and stuff, ahhh, this is becoming scary. lol.

Oh guys, this is the kind of sealed Q-Logic Dual Sub box I have now. Each sub box part is 1.25 cubic feet. I was somewhat thinking of going with 2 Type-S Alpine 12" Subwoofers, with an Alpine MRP M650 Amplifier... to shorten costs. As I said, I am on a budget right now, but once I get a job, I can upgrade later on. I just cant deal with my Rockfords right now.

Can someone tell me how big of a difference this will be going from P1's to Type-S's, in terms of RMS wattage with gains all the way up and such? I just dont know if I can afford a new custom wooden box, 1 expensive sub along with an nice expensive amp right now, so what do you think for a beginner thats not interested in competition, but to get serious bang? I mean, I got serious bang inside my car with the Rockfords due to the Dynamat, but I just need an idea of how much better these would be?

How much RMS for each sub would the Alpine M650 amp be giving each also?

Thanks.

Ok, Im editing this again, because I dont know what I want anymore. I just feel the Type-S's wont live up to my expectations with an M650 amp. I really want one 12" Type-R with that Hifonics, but that capacitor thing...is scary me so bad, bc I read mumbo jumbo on it and it talks about frying and blowing things up, and blah blah, and I get freaked out. My alternator, I cant afford to buy a high-powered one for $400+. Hmmmm, Im so lost.

Dude capacitors are the biggest consumer electronic scam in the history of the US. They are not nescessary in most applications. A 1606 hifonics is not going to do anything to your car or hurt your alt. As for the box make one that is 2.5 NET with at least 30in of port area, and tune from 32-36hz, Higher tuning is louder but the type-rs like low tuning too. you could always build a decent box for the p1's......

Alright, if the capacitors are overrated, what about my headlighting and lighting dimming with the Hifonics amp? If everyone thinks it will be ok, then I wont bother with a capacitor, but Im scared for my alternator. But I wont try to worry about that now. Alright, I know for a fact I want that Hifonics amp and 1 Type-R subwoofer for now. Someone thinks I should do 2.5 cubic feet and such for the box. Thats the exact size as my dual box right now, except its split into 1.25 each side, so yeah. Is it possible to wire up 2 Type-Rs to that Hifonics amp down the line? How much RMS watts is that Hifonics going to give one Type-R with 2ohms?

Oh, not to start another topic, but like, is it bad to run another battery in the trunk for the system? My cousin does this, with his stock alternator, and I dont know? I just want the extra juice to make sure my system is powered.

Thanks again.

I would personally go for a 15" in a larger ported enclosure. You won't have to worry about needing to later //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

As for your alternator, if this was a common occurrence you would see a lot less people wth modifi8ed audio systems. Just do the big 3 to your electrical and you should be fine.

Big 3 thread.

Capacitors aren't total junk. They just don't do what people think they do. They are beneficial in a system with an alrady strong electical setup.

A second battery is good for really powerfule setups. IMO they are overkill for daily beaters like your doing.

They are rated at 900@2 ohms i beleive, but they are overrated a little bit

Alright guys, thanks for so much help. I will be sticking with one 12" Alpine Type-R subwoofer, and most likely that Hifonics amplifier for it, and I will definitely be doing the Big 3 with 0 gauge wire sometime too.

Now for the box ideas. Anybody have any ideas or things that can help me with the design for it?

Thanks so much.

PS: This is going to be facing into the cabin of the car, it sounds better to me. And the port should be facing inside the trunk, and Im hoping for at least 2 spots to mount two amps onto the sub box.

Once again, Im going to have to wait till tomorrow, I had a busy day today.

Not to bust anyones balls again, but Im again thinking about going with a different system. I think my amplifier (Rockford PUNCH 325.1 Mono powering my 2 12" Rockford P1's) is dying, because I didnt know having the gain all the way up would hurt it, it didnt distort or anything, until a week ago it started to and then the bass cut out, and its not the Thermal Protection because its cold inside the cabin/trunk, and I start it out low volumes till it warms up. But Im thinking about getting like 2 subs that will fit my 1.25cu. ft. x2 dual enclosure, instead of dealing with an expensive 1 sub, expensive amplifier and a new custom box. Can anyone please tell me some great subwoofers along with an amp, but the subs have to hit hard and fine in my 2.5 dual enclosure though, because I dont wanna deal with a new box now. I will in the future, but now, I cant on a budget. I would really appreciate if I got some ideas.

EDIT: Ok, Ive been thinking some more, and I need to know how 2 Type-R's would sound in a sealed 2.5 cu.ft enclosure, 1.25 each sub, in my Q-Logic 1 box. If it will WORK, and sound GOOD, meaning, better than my Rockfords, let me know, please, because I will do this first, until I gain more money to make a custom box. IF this works fine in a 1.25 sub each, I will do it. This is all Im nervous on. I cant deal with a custom enclosure right now. Sorry about that. Any ideas?

Thanks guys!!
