I just reinstalled my subs/amp, and it hitting when there is no music playing.

For example in betwen switching cds, it will thump a few times. It isnt very loud and it isnt a constant thump. But im not sure what could be causing it. I tryed to search but couldnt really think of what to type.

Could be because of clipping possably?Do you have a clean ground...

Is everything else connected properly, no wires touching exposed ends, etc...

I wouldnt say clipping would be the problem, if there is no music playing then the amplifier shouldnt be putting out any signal at all, let alone a clipped signal.

Check your grounds, if you can, I would pick another grounding spot just to be sure. Could be a shorted RCA, as mentioned. We really need some more information to be sure.

Well the rca isnt grounded, so i will try that tomarrow. I remember seeing apost where someone explained how to do thism but i cannot find it. Also im not even sure my headunit is grounded unless the wiring kit had a ground on it.

It could be the ground on the amp, because I have only used this ground when i used my nine.1 at 8ohms, so maybe this ground isnt cutting it for 2 ohms?

I dont think it would be clipping although i didnt use anything to set the gains. The Headunit is a pioneer 6600, and the amp is a nine.1, it is hooked upto a 16ov2 at 2 ohms. The agins are about 45%..

Thanks for all the suggestions

Well just to make sure it isnt the gains i am going to get a volt meter tomarrow and set them the right way according to the jl tutorial. I just dled and burned a 50hz tone.

Now i turn everything at 0 on my headunit, and al eqs off? and just play the tone with the + and - outputs touching the meter. And since it isnt a jl audio amp how do i know what to set the gains at? Should i just go with what it is for the 1000/1?

Thanks again.

The voltage you'll be looking for will be the subs impedence multiplied by how many watts the amp puts out, then find the square root. For example:

The amp puts out 400 watts at 4 ohms, and you have a 2 ohm DVC sub wired to 4 ohms.

4 x 400 = 1600

square root of 1600 is 40, so look for that.

WTF are you guys talking about?
ZacMC: When you eject a CD, your amp is turning off. When you put the CD back in, it's kicking back on.

That's turn-on thump.
Well that could be it i guess, but it also does it inbetween songs.

I was messing with it today, and it still does it when the vol. is turned all the way down, and if i play a song and turn the vol. down is doesnt do it.

So does that mean is isnt sending any other "clipped signals" since it doesnt do it while im playing a song.

Also i havnt tried any of the siggestions yet because i have been swamped with homework, but hopefully i can today when i get back from class.
