Newbie - having problems wiring head unit

Hey all,

I have a 95 Honda Civic - I previously had a pioneer head unit in it but it would stop playing when it got too hot, so I took my other head unit out of my old car I am trying to install it into the civic. It is a Aiwa CDC-X227 has a pretty straight forward layout - I just can't get it to work. I am connecting it to the wires that the pioneer was connected to. Red to red, yellow to yellow, black to black and blue to blue and I get absolutely nothing. I tried switching the red and yellow wires around and then I could insert and eject a cd - but the unit would not turn on?

Anyone with help - It would be extremely appreciated, I am driving up to Chicago tomorrow and I don't want to be driving 12 hours with no music!!

Thanks...

Well different wires on differnt head units are different. Make sure that the yellow and red are the hot wires. And with that make sure the yellow and red on the head unit are the 12 volt in. In most cases they are. Recheck all the fuses (do not forget about the ones under the hood). You may have shorted one out when taking the other HU out. Take a volt meter and insure the yellow and red are getting 12 volts. Check to make sure the ground is good, and you might even think about making a new ground.

Thanks allot pavengmike6,

I took your advice and tested the wires - the red was giving me 12v but the yellow had nothing. I checked all the fuses and they were all good. I wasn't sure what to do next. Just by chance I decided to take the harness out to see if I could see anything wrong under the dash. When I took it out I noticed the yellow wire was loose and not making contact with the connector. I fixed that and then hooked everything up again and when I turned the key - PRESTO it all worked fine!!!

So i am sorted out and extremely glad to have music for tomorrow...

Thanks again
