new sub....rewire??

I currently have an alpine type R 12" sub hooked up to my Alpine MRD-M500 amp. The sub is DVC (4+4), and I have it wired to 2 ohms. My friend has a sub in a box, and they just took it out of his brother's truck. He is not going to start driving until Feburary, so he is giving me his sub for the time being. It is a 12" type E, but I have no idea about anything else.

How will I hook these up? I thought about just hooking up 2 more wires in the amp, to run to the other box, but I decided to ask you guys first. I dont want to screw up my stuff, and I really dont want to screw up his.

Is it DVC or SVC.

yeah, thats the problem....

Im not sure if it is a SVC or DVC, The only thing that I know is that it is a 12 inch Type E. I have no idea about anything else. I'm not too sure if he knows either. I dont really want to take it out of the box, and see, but if I have to to keep it from screwing up, then I guess I will.

well if its a DVC and wired @ to low of an ohmage it might over current your amp:uhoh:, then you will have to take it out to rewire it.

ok...thats what I was afraid of...

Now the question is...how do I wire it up. They are obviously in two different boxes with two terminals... I will go take a look at it, and see if it is DVC or SVC.

I just took it out of the box, and it is a 4 ohm, SVC. A reminder...mine is a DVC 4 ohm+4ohm. Have any ideas on how to wire it??

what kind of amp, or what is it stable at

all in parallel would be 1.333 ohms.

Its a Mono Alpine-MRD-M500 amp. I believe it is only stable at 2 ohm. I'm not exactly sure though.

Ya, the MRD-M500 is only good to 2 ohms

wire the DVC in series, and then in parallel with the Type E for a 2.67 ohm load.

yep only 2 ohm stable. 500w x1 @ 2 ohms.
