New Sub Problem

I just installed one 10" Pioneer W254C into a sealed q-logic box (w/ Premier X220 amp) and it doesn't sound all that great. However, when I open the trunk the bass is awesome. I can close the trunk, sit in the car and listen and then press the trunk button and all of a sudden it comes to life when the trunk is open. The mirrors actually vibrate when the trunk is open...

When you have your trunk closed does the bass seem

to be quiet and not very deep? Almost like there's no sub

in the trunk at all!

Then when you open your trunk the bass gets louder

and deeper.

It may be cancellation. Do to the size of your trunk.

What kind of car do you have?

I have the same problem in my truck. If I roll my windows

down half way the bass is loud and deep.

But if I roll them up all the way I lose a lot of low bass energy.

I have EQ's to help, but do to the size of the cab some freq.

just aren't there due to cancellation and boosting them doesn't do much.

Can't boost something that isn't there.

Yes, that is EXACTLY it. If you got in my car with the trunk closed, and I turned up the music, you'd never know I had a subwoofer... I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. Sounds very deep and forceful with the trunk open, though.

Yep is seems like bass cancellation. It SUCKS!

Not sure, but I don't think there is a way to totally

overcome the natural acoustics that your car's

interior dimensions produce.

I have tried putting my sub in many positions

in the cab, but no matter what the low notes

weren't there.

A while back my friend put 1 JL10W1 in the trunk of a Grand Prix

and it sounded great. One day we put it in the back

of my Explorer and it sounded terrible. It wasn't

loud at all. And the bass wasn't deep.

The auto that your putting your system in can make a

huge difference in the quality of the sound. Even the best

subs on the market can sound sub-par in certain autos.

That's based on what I have experienced.

Yeah, I just tried it in every part of the trunk, still sounds horrible...

can you pull down the back seats?

if so, pull the seats down, face the sub towards the trunk with the sub on the seats and that might help?

I had a similar problem with my subs. They were loud outside of the car, but not inside. YOu may have already tried this, but what worked for me was facing the cone surface of the speaker into the trunk and the back of the speaker box right up against the back seat. This worked for me. I was running a sealed box, so I don't know what to do for other types of boxes.
