Well, with gas being what it is, ain't no way I'm getting a truck now. I'm looking into a 02-04 GTI or 01-04 Maxima.

I'm leaning towards the GTI as I did a full install in one and drove it a little and I like it-I was told the handling on the 1.8T isn't the greatest, though. Monsoon system is easy to work with too IMO //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I don't want a stick though, and most of them seem to come in manuals. I actually found one about 30mi from me- it's a 2004 1.8T with 15k miles for 15 grand.

I've also been considering the Maxima's- they get almost the same gas milage from what I've read, and have the 3.5 in there. I can find one around the same price with about 30k miles, which isn't too bad.

Comments/opinions?

If I go the GTI route, VR6 or 1.8T?

After driving an '03 maxima, I sort of fell in love with the 3.5.. The car just drove so smooth, and I like the responsiveness of the engine. I also loved the interior, as it seemed very spacious. I drove about 90 plus miles that day, and the gas needle moved hardly at all..

I'd say im partially biased toward the Maxima..

As much as i love the AG group, i'd go with a maxima 3.5, those are teh ***!!!1!

I second the Maxima ive had mine for about a year now and put about 25000 miles on it with hardly any problems. The 3.5 is an awesome engine, I know you said you didnt want a manual but you can get them in a 6 speed which gets awesome gas mileage! I average about 400 miles to a tank with mostly city driving and have gotten a little over 500 miles before but that was all highway. Check out maxima.org theres alot of info on them over them lol.

I have read a few things about VWs having reliability issues. Not to mention the low resale value.

I know lots of folks with both and my choice is definatly the Maxi. You cant beat the reliability and resale of a toyota, unless your a honda.
