Need help with choosing a subwoofer...

want a (2) 12" subwoofer that has a 1,200 watt rms rating.

something that is loud but not to terrible at sound quality.

i have a Alpine MRX-240 amp.

willing to spend about $200 - $220 per sub. (unless there is one thats better and cheaper)

i have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 so trunk space is kinda limited. I will custom make box when i find good ideas for one. trunk size i believe is 15cu. ft

music preference is hip-hop / rap

just want to be the loudest at school.

anything will help...

my competition is:

- (2) 15" Kicker L7's (I think)

- (2) 12" Kicker L7's

- (4) 12" kicker Comps

- (2) 12" JBL W12GTi Mkll

- (2) 12" JL W6

then everybody else has those cheap subs.

yes, im aware good wiring and a well designed box with a good electrical system is key when it comes down to a good loud system. i got it taken care off.

Are you trying to buy just one or two?Not really clear on your post, the top says one and towards the end you say per sub.But if you're trying to buy 2 for 200-220$ a piece you can buy one beefy azz sub.

Also what do you drive, and how much room are you willing to take up?

we need to know how much room you've got to work with.
are you talking about trunk size?

i drive a 2005 ford focus zx4.just wanting to use he trunk so im not taking out the back seats. i willing to take some of the trunk but leave enough room to fit a toolbox and a few miscellaneous things like book bags and a place to put another battery.
would that beat my competition?
in the right box yes it could be louder. im betting the other guys your refering to all have prefab boxes. my wife has a L7 15" in her focus on like 750rms and it does pretty well for what it is. good option would be a the newer HDC4 15, these subs are mosters. 1 of those in the right enlcosure on 2000watts rms would be very nice.
