my sub is clicking

I moved this from the general discussion cause I didnt get any feedback.

Hey guys. I have an internally amplified Bazooka nos style bass tube.

After about a year and a half my sub started to make a single click whenever I pushed down on the gas pedal. It only did this when the engine was running and the amp was powered up, even without the rca's hooked up. It also was not affected by volume level.

This lasted for about a year, but just recently it has started to click constantly whenever the engine is on and the amp is powered. There are about 2-3 clicks a second regardless of engine rpm. The sub still plays bass the same as it always did though. I dont normally listen to music loud enough to drown it out, so it gets very annoying and I pulled out the fuse for the amp a few days ago so I dont have to listen to it.

The ground is screwed to the frame and not under a bolt for the seat. I also checked over my power wire, and the insulation was fine. I tried using a ferrite filter ring on each wire for the amp without success. Does anyone know what the problem is? Is my amp toast? Engine noise?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for any advice.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Look for the "big 3" sticky and try that.

Unscrew the ground, scrape the grounding

hole area with a stiff wire brush. If it still

happens after all that, sounds like toast.

good luck.

maybe your HU is f'd up. try gettin access to a different HU and see if thats the problem, and yes, change your ground.
he said it happend without the RCA's hooked up, so what would that have to do with his HU?

would it be possible for you to get a video of the clicking sound?

Thanks for the feedback!

About the ground, when the sub started to click at first, I unscewed it and used 100 grit sandpaper to clean it off then put it back on with a bigger screw cause the old one didnt have a very good bite on the metal. It still did the same thing after that.

I was told to do "the big three" at the bazooka forum, I was low on money and didnt want to get cheap stuff, so I checked over all the wires and they were all good insulation-wise.

I'm just making sure here, but the HU is my head unit. In that case it has done the same thing with two different head units.

I could try to get a video, I haven't ever done that kind of thing. Any advice on how to post it and stuff. I only have my digital camera to take a video with.

Oooooo! I just thought of something. You know how some sets of RCA's have that little wire between the two signal cables? I used that as my remote turn on wire. Is that bad? I think I'll try to find some wire and run it seperately and see if that does anything. Is it possible that it is the culprit?

I'm off to go capture the elusive "click" on video!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh:

I took the fuse out so that the amp wont power up. My stereo has no bass right now, but I dont have to listen to it clicking, cause the sub was the only thing that ever clicked.

I've tried different fuses tho, didn't make a difference.

I appreciate the advice tho.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT: I put the fuse back in before I took the video.
