My install's coming along nicely

another thing I tend to see is you brag about sticking to your original plan to remain stock, then instead of recutting your adapters for your dash out of thinner material for driver clearance you would rather buy the most overpriced speaker grills you can to solve the problem. you didn't heed any suggestions with any of the setup and now its all going to **** because of your hard head.
Yes, I knew what I wanted and I made it happen! And I'm sure I played it too loud, I remember some real vehicle shaking sub bass. Anyway I have to figure out what's not OK so first thing I'm gonna unplug the sub cable and measure the resistance with my VOM. Then go from there.

See what happens when you talk ****. Karma is finally getting you back.
Yep! I did it to myself! I knew I had a system capable of damaging my components and I'm afraid that's what I've done!

May take it to Tim at Custom Sounds for troubleshooting if testing with my VOM does not give a clear indication of something specific being amiss. Next week, I work tomorrow to Monday.

Edit: I did get out last night and try to measure the resistance through the wire to my sub, but the little plastic plugs Alpine uses to plug the speaker wires into the V9 amp are very confusing and difficult for me to find where to connect my VOM leads to measure the resistance. I'm gonna have to get my little tiny hex Allen wrenches out and finds the one that allows me to remove the sub wire from the little plastic plug thing to properly measure my sub's resistance/impedance on the wires. I hope my V9 amp is also not damaged! Oh well, it's only money! And time, and work. :-( Not gonna do THAT again!! My DSP controller thing has a master volume control on it, and when I get my system working again I'm gonna restrict the volume at my DSP controller to prevent this from happening again! Have to have to use technology to prevent me from damaging it, but... ;-)

Why not just take it back to your "installer guy"? You have mentioned something about him owing you some warranty time. Not sure how a backyard hack is going to warranty anything that he has messed up.

You being an EE should be able to figure out a simple audio install.

I'm going to eventually, but it's the "dead of Winter" and getting worse, plus it's still in the "Week Of Christmas". Yes I feel my installer guy owes me a little warranty work and I'm sure he will agree, like finding and correcting the 'short' in the passenger door 6x9 speaker wire which Tim at Custom Sounds measured at the amp as 0.3 Ohms, a short! Tim unplugged that speaker wire from my V9 amp then tuned my DSP as best he could.

I'm not gonna try and get Alpine or anyone else to "warranty" stuff I broke myself! I am NOT that kind of DISHONEST guy! I pay for my own mistakes!

And we are ALL just "backyard hacks" here! Some with bigger EGOS than others!

Bro u got a big assss van... turn the heat on. Let it warm up...then start fvcking with shlt and find the problem.

And Baby II has pretty good heat too!

I'm gonna, but not yet! Next week on my days off. At least I accidentally pulled my driver's side 6x9 speaker wire out of the little Alpine plug into my V9 amp and measured it (on the wire metal!) to be 0.004 Ohms on the 1K Ohm scale on my cheap little digital VOM. How I miss my old big ole ANALOG meter on my old VOM! :-(

you can just touch the dmm leats to the terminal where the wires go in. you should be able to get the leads in there.

unpplug all the sppeakers and sub and check 12v at the amppp and rem

is it possible your dsp overdrove the amp and blew the input section?

Anything, well most things are possible. You ever try and get a couple of VOM leads into one of these little Alpine plugs to try and measure the speaker's impedance? I have, it's a real b i t c h to try and figure out what to touch the leads to the metal parts of the plug to measure the resistance/impedance of the speaker+wire!! New technologies always make things harder! Like these little plastic plug-in things to plug the speaker wires into the Alpine PDX-V9 amp! A screw terminal would be EASY to measure, or I can pull the wires out of the little plastic plug which is what I'm gonna do, d a m m i t! I've got little use for technology that makes simple things difficult!

John Kuthe...

Little plastic plug in things aren't new technology, I have seen them on amps from the late 80's early 90's. It seems to me that the only thing making simple things difficult is you.

Like HertzMafia said start your van and let it heat up. Grab your manuals for your amps, your volt meter and get your system figured out.

New to me.

The Alpine V9 manual gives NO indication on where on those little plastic plug things to measure the electrical resistance of the speaker+wire! Of course, most of what's in Owner's or Installation manuals is COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING! Not how to actually technically work WITH the product! I was back there with my VOM poking the leads in there trying to find the conductors and could not find them! I'm not making things difficult, they ARE difficult independent of me. Everything is so simple from armchair quarterback's perspective! I found my mini hex key set and when I have time I'm gonna loosen the set screws and pull my sub's wires out of the stupid little plug things and MEASURE my sub+wire impedance directly on the wires!

I figure at worst I may have to replace my Alpine SWR-t12 subwoofer and my Alpine PDX-V9 amp! After all, it's just money! ;-)

Is the amp going into protection mode? Red light instead of green? Maybe you had another wire short out and it fried something in the amp. You should figure out what your issue is , with your system, before you throw more money at it. You could replace the sub and the amp and then have the same thing happen all over again.

No kidding? ;-) Especiially if I replace the sub speaker and amp and then crank it up too loudly again! I'm almost certain that was the causal factor.

Dead of winter my ***... It's been in the high 40s low 50s all week in STL John. And don't go to Custom Sounds, their work is way overpriced and they will try to upsell you big time. Also have heard they don't do the best of work.

It's gonna get COLD again, very soon!

I found a good guy working at Custom Sounds, Tim. Yes I know Custom Sounds does most of their business selling and installing fancy auto c r a p like remote starters, etc. but there are a few working for them that actually know what they are doing too, and I found Tim who seems to really know what he's doing with my Alpine PXA-H800 DSP! Wish I could contract with Tim privately and independently of Custom Sounds, but he;s got his job with Custom Sounds to worry about, so... And I know about upselling, places like Custom Sounds make their living off upselling!

And we are still in the middle (towards the end!) of Christmas Week! Christmas to New Year's!

I've got to go to my job in less than an hour, so BYE!!
