My install's coming along nicely

The Big 3 upgrade would also alleviate the dimming without purchasing a new alternator. Your trying to **** too much "water" through a "straw" that is too small. Get bigger "straws" and you can drink more from your already full "Water Bottle". Getting a larger "Water bottle" will be useless because your current "straw" cannot empty it. Input/output. Your input is fine but your output is limited by wire size. Understand that "Electrical Engineer"?
Yes, I totally understand the "water through a pipe" analogy. "Big 3" WIRING ONLY solution MAY perceptibly alleviate my instrument lights dimming problem, but a higher output alternator would probably do so better and for less cost in $$ and work! And your "getting a larger 'Water Bottle'" analogy better fits a higher capacity BATTERY!

Fourier analysis on your menu? ;-)

oh yeah a new alternator and paying for it to be installed is a lot cheaper than about 10 feet of power wire and some lugs.

Jesus Christ your an idiot, I was hoping Santa would have brought you some intellect. Maybe next year.

Always sounds easy when you're armchair quarterbacking!!

Never that easy once you get into actually DOING it!

How many cars have you built?

John Kuthe...

plus the battery and the alternator both provide current, which is the water he is referring to in the analogy so both battery and alt put out water. just quit ever trying to correct anyone and listen. no one else has ever heard of the big 3 meaning anything else but the charging system wires and grounds. quit trying to make up ****.

ive worked on many car restorations, and many installs, on my own. I didn't seek any craigslist pro's. so when you actually do anything let us know.

The battery supplies chemically stored ENERGY in the form of DC electricity. An alternator supplies AC electricity rectified roughly to DC from the mechanical ENERGY of the car's ancient technology, the internal combustion engine!!

Guess where all that ENERGY came from originally?

John Kuthe...

no I use manuals, I don't have to hire a guy from craigslist to do stuff that I will then have to take to a professional to get fixed. I listen to peoples experience and learn and apply those lessons to my own adventures. I don't make up stuff, and ignore or insult people who try to help.

The Big 3, regardless of what you want to think it actually is, will by far be significantly cheaper and more time efficient than getting a high output alt, hell with the amount of power youre running you probably wouldnt even need 0awg for the upgrade but it would be recommended. And i just did both to my car on christmas and got my system in and playing, big 3 by far the easier part of almost the entire install imo.

But I could PAY for a higher output alternator and PAY someone to install it for me! Little to no work for me, only money. I would not even get my hands dirty, and I'll BET it would cure my instrument lights dimming when my bass hits hard MINOR problem!

John Kuthe...

you can also PAY the guy at the shop that fixed your botched install to do the big 3 upgrade for you. In fact whoever does the alt install for you will probably suggest doing it anyway.

with that low power it almost definitely would, however, getting a decent high output alt worth spending money on is going to run you several hundred dollars, a couple weeks or more build time then shipping time and then another hundred or so in installation costs. Thats not an absurd amount of money but you could probably use the wire you have left over from the install or order some more and have it to you in less time and could probably even have the guys from the shop or any mechanic shop really, do it for you all for less than 200 and you'd be on your way before they even begin to get your alternator built. But, not my money nor my install, do as you please.

And all to try and cure a very minor "problem"!

No thanks!
