"Really? You've got degrees?? Ive never heard you metion them. Jeez guys he has degrees. I think that must make him the almighty expert in every single subject. I wouldn't argue with him because he has degrees, that means he is clearly smarter than all of us. Praise John Kuthe!!" - Said no one everDegrees are easy! Just play the game! Pass the exams and there ya go! I've got several!

ROFL!!! You just can't stand people who do not submit to your supposed authority, eh? Fine! Because you FOUND one! I am NOT gonna kowtow to you or anyone else here, because there is no one here or anywhere "better" than me. Nor do I think *I* am better than anyone. Everyone is equal here on the Internet. I really try to give others the benefit of the doubt until they repeatedly demonstrate that they are not worthy of my respect. A precious few who have responded to me with respect and "common courtesy" I tend to respond to very favorably. But those I refer to as the denizens of Caraudio know who you are! This is why I don't think I could be a good actor. I don't think no matter how hard I tried I could ever be as lame as john, even if I tried my very hardest. If this wasn't real it would be one of the best trolls I've ever witnessed.
Everyone has their own definitions of the "type 3" designation. And I have a cheapie plug-in little digital voltmeter, but being digital it displays a reported voltage averaged over some internally elected sample interval/rate I'm sure and it does not reflect any "instantaneous" voltage levels, just some average over an internally selected interval of time. Plus it's 'worthless" as it's NOT on either of my amps power connections!John,
You say you listen and learn but I do not think that is true at all.
The Big 3 has been explained to you over and over again.
It is not what you think it is.
The Big 3 is just upgrading 3 wires, that is it. You keep thinking it is a bigger altenator, bigger battery, and something else.
it is just 3 WIRES!!!!!
You upgrade the following wires.
From the alternator + to the battery +
From the battery - to the engine
From the battery - to the frame
That is it, that is the "Big 3"
If you want to know what your electrical is doing then install a voltmeter.
I have one, I run a **** ton more power that you have and keep at ~13.5 volts
Seriously what is wrong with you?Everyone has their own definitions of the "type 3" designation. And I have a cheapie plug-in little digital voltmeter, but being digital it displays a reported voltage averaged over some internally elected sample interval/rate I'm sure and it does not reflect any "instantaneous" voltage levels, just some average over an internally selected interval of time. Plus it's 'worthless" as it's NOT on either of my amps power connections!
And I'm proud of you for "... run[ing] a s h i t (SIC) ton more power that you have and keep at ~13.5 volts"! It must make your d i c k a lot bigger and wetter!

There exists NO "National Bureau of Car Audio Standards" so yes it DOES mean different things to different people.Seriously what is wrong with you?
I was letting you know that with your limited amount of power upgrading your alternator is not likely to be necessary.
Big 3 is actually a car audio term that means upgrading the 3 main wires. It does not mean different things to different people.
All this ego posturing is just efforts to make you feel your d i c k is bigger, much like monster trucks with truck testicals!WTF are you talking about my dik for?

You explained what YOU think the "Big 3" is. And thank you for your input. But NO wires need upgrading, actually, says the car manufacturer!! The car's manufacturer determined the cheapest wires they could get away with using and that's what "stock" wiring is! You want to build a bigger badder car? Go for it!Ego Posturing?
I explained what the Big 3 is to you and even went so far as to explain what all 3 wires that need to be upgraded were.
I have a very modest stereo as compared to many others on this forum.
Do you actually think at all before you respond? You explained what YOU think the "Big 3" is. And thank you for your input. But NO wires need upgrading, actually, says the car manufacturer!! I don't give a rat's a s s about comparing your or my car audio system to anyone else's. That's ego posturing!! They all sound pretty good, some better than others. Most times light year's better than stock auto sound systems!

You are correct, I don't "need" a higher output alternator but a higher output alt would probably help alleviate my OBSERVED slight dimming of my instrument lights when my bass hits hard. It's not like I'm not gonna be able to start my car the next time I need to or anything like that.Do you actually think at all before you respond?
Stock wires don't need upgrading? You are now pulling much more continuous power through the electrical system than the stock system was designed for. That is why the wires need upgrading.
I explained what I think the Big 3 is, no I explained what "we" as a car audio community call the needed electrical upgrade that we use. It is called the Big 3 and is the same to all of us except for you.
Comparing systems? WTF? I know what amps you have and I know what amps I have, you were saying you needed a larger alternator and I stated that you do not. I am running my stock Alt which I am pretty sure is rated for less power than the one you have in your van.
That is not saying mine is better or worse than yours or anyone else's.
The Big 3 upgrade would also alleviate the dimming without purchasing a new alternator. Your trying to drink too much "water" through a "straw" that is too small. Get bigger "straws" and you can drink more from your already full "Water Bottle". Getting a larger "Water bottle" will be useless because your current "straw" cannot empty it. Input/output. Your input is fine but your output is limited by wire size. Understand that "Electrical Engineer"?You are correct, I don't "need" a higher output alternator but a higher output alt would probably help alleviate my OBSERVED slight dimming of my instrument lights when my bass hits hard. It's not like I'm not gonna be able to start my car the next time I need to or anything like that.
