My 15" XXX Review....was interesting...

I have it in the back seat because I no longer have a floor board in my trunk because of the 4 12's. I have a battery and 2 fuse holders in the wheel well now.

I figured chances are it would be louder there anyways...being a 4 door full size sedan.

Im having kinda the same problem as you are, cept I have an 8W7 in like 1cuft @ 32hz on like 200W

My RE 10s I had would pound, and this 8W7 does too but on different notes than my RE 10s.

I was wanting to get a 12XXX for my console install in my truck but now Im having second thoughts after reading all this....

yeaaa i dunno. Put it this way....its loud enough for where I want to give it another chance...in another box or 2....i think I am going to just see what it will sound like in a sealed box that i can build in like 2 seconds.

I think im selling my car soon. I hate it more every day...gas mileage suuuuucks... Im lookin at a Ford Focus zx3....the one that looks like the Toyota Matrix. Small, good gas, sealed cabin. has good sound potential.

I dont think you'll like it any more sealed. Why not do some work to your doors and work on upgrading the mids?

Honestly, I really dont care much about mids...I have the mids on my type R's turned pretty high right now, and i can even tell they are there. I just want a lot of bass. loud vocals, and sharp Hi's. And if anything right now (even though I have 2 6 1/2 type R compentents in my front stage) I would want to get the vocals up more

I dont think I will like it more either, i just wnt to see if thats the "type" of sound ive been looking for.

It wont get ungodly loud, in the right box itll sound awesome though.

So.....you pretty much just want a sub and tweeters? What about everything in between. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

MidBASS is still bass, is it not? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I want bass, tweets, and Loud Vocals...with the midbass the speakers produce...im not going to go out and add a pair of 8" midbass drivers... wont be loud enough unless when that XXX is pounding and the frequ. goes up in the song and I can not even tell that the midbass is taking over....but when my car goes from rediculous bass to like 120db of midbass Ill just get pissed....personal pref...no upgrading midbass.

As I stated all along, XXX's really aren't utilized to their full unless they are mated to strong midbass drivers. Im running one of my XXX's sealed right now with Kodas on the front stage, so midbass is fairly strong, and I still can tell I need more. And that's with the XXX in a small sealed box, with less than 500 watts.

SQ? The XXX Im running now hasn't missed a beat its intended to play since I dropped it in the box. But yeah, I have an adjustable crossover and tuning it to anything above 60hz or so makes no audible difference to the XXX's output. They are bottom feeders, but don't expect much midbass out of them, which is what it sounds like you are expecting.

1) Check your crossover frequency, it sounds like you want midbass information coming from your subwoofer. Have you tried crossing it over at 80 Hz yet? You may like it that way better.

2) XBL^2 woofers have very low distortion, this is sometimes confused with not being very loud. These drivers also exibit very little T/S parameter shift vs. excursion so they don't acquire as large a peak in response at high volumes.

3) Your tuning should be fine, but if you listen to mainly rap you may very well enjoy it more tuned to 40 Hz. Most rap really doesn't get that low, per-se, it tends to boom alot around 40 - 50 Hz. I don't listen to alot of rap at all, but this is my experience based on working with a friend on his car (big rap fan).

4) The rear seat is a horrible place for a subwoofer, especially for *sounding* loud. Is the setup with the Eclipise in a trunk or a hatchback? This would explain alot of the difference, especially if it is a hatch (they are great for bass in general).

Hope that helps... and it's 7 AM on Sunday and I'm awake for no reason.

haha, nice, thanks for the post this early in the morning....

The Eclipse was in an SRT-4. Sounded amazing...i have yet to hear any sub get close to doing what that thing did...except some songs with this XXX

I agree with what you say in regards to me liking what 38-40 Hz tuning would sound like....not that im a big SPL guy, but I just like the way higher bass sounds....its more responsive, and i think it sounds cleaner...maybe because you cant actually hear the sub mechanically moving...know what I mean...

OK...on my amp there is the regular crossover setting which was at probably around 140 Hz the lowest read 35..highest read 250 ....changed that just now to about 70-80 (little over a quarter up) so hopefully that works somewhat.....NOW.....WHAT IS the subsonic filter supposed to be set at...because the guage for that was 0-50.....I have it on about 30......??? No idea.

If you hear the sub making mechanical noises while reproducing low bass, there's something wrong with your setup, or you're trying to play low tones way below the enclosure's tuning frequency and the drivers are unloading.

no im just saying I can hear the cone fluttering...its the cone I hear, not like....other stuff. I dunno, i just like higher bass sound better....but subwoofer bass, not midrange high bass .

Like today i was playing Ludacris BubbleGum Yum Yum...and that was almost to low...it could pick it up, but my Type R's tuned to 35 picked it up better.

ehhhh ya know...had to see what all the hype was about. I havent heard many people making a box for this thing tuned to 40...I have a feeling it will really wang...

But back to my other question....Where should the subsonic filter gain be at? 0-50...right now I have it on 30
