Go buy my XXX fools:crazy:

I have a 10" waiting on the recone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know enough about it....I got the plans from someone else who loved it in this box. I also know that something starts to smell like a sub being pushed to its limits after playing it hard for 10 minutes (which isnt too long). I know that when I turn my radio up..the sub gets pretty much maxed out and the interior continues to get louder, but not the sub...or very little, if at all then. Im running half gain.

Doesnt the crossover setting just control what frequ. the sub plays at...not how loud it gets. set at 60 hz, or 80 hz...shouldnt it still wang at 30 Hz?

Read BCAE's section on crossovers and slopes.

How do you think the crossover controls where the sub plays? That's right - by attenuating it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The reason I said that is because there's a chance you have something set where it'll low pass the low bass you're hearing but attenuate the higher bass.

yes...it CANNN, we all know that means NOTHING though....someone said the box might be to small..in that case wouldnt it take smaller power to blow it.

So how do I know where to set the crossover at for this specific sub.

Credibility my foot. I never said I had any to begin with. Ill admit it, I dont know all that much about building boxes. Its hard to find a place to work at with a small amount of knowledge that builds a lot of boxes and does a lot of custom work....like I would love to learn how to do. I stopped college due to bad experiences, and ive always been into car audio, so I figured Id take a year or 2 off to learn this stuff...but I cant find a job that does custom work. Not many private shops want to take the time out to teach someone like me....but the diff is with me, I am very willing to learn, because I love this stuff and this is what I want to do for a career as of now. I just want to make it work.

As i posted earlier....this was my first box...but i have seen/ assisted in making many others, but because of all the talk up about this sub...I took out the time to make sure that it was VERY sturdy and had no leaks. I got all the dimensions from someone else, so all i had to do was cut and put together.

No. A larger ported box would be more efficient. This would allow you to reach full xmax with less power. Low end extension would also be improved.

Depending on where your mids are crossed at. I had mine set @ 69 hz after I got my mids fully installed and able to take it.

assume I have no mids...id want the sub crossover set higher right.....have good mids then you set the sub cross lower...right?
Yes...and setting the LPF too high tends to make the sub very easy to detect in the soundstage (localized) and sounds like ***.

Not technically. Ideal daily driver xover point for a sub is 80. Normally no higher. But only the user can determine this.

Start it off at 80hz. Then start to lower it untill it blends well enough with the rest of your music.

If you try to play it any higher you're going to experience a far less smooth responce. And in turn will effect your percieved Sound quality expereince.

yaa i hear you on that.. Im not sure where the crossover is set...BUT...where should it be set at about?
I wont turn the gain up, because When im pounding it for about 10 min. I can start to smell something starting to heat up...dunno if its the amp, or the voice coils..but it makes me nervous, seeing as I do not have a warranty on this sub. Also...on my radio..it sounds like the sub starts to approach Xmax at about 21 on my radio..because as I turn it up to 25-26...the sub gets a little louder...but more so the components and the interior music gets louder, faster...and at that point it doesnt sound like the sub is getting any louder.........I have this box in my back seat by the way...not in my trunk...tried it on both sides of the back seat, and it didnt really make a difference in sound.
Any particular reason you have the box in the back seat? Is that where you had your 4 type R's?
