I think the most important part of this discussion is missing
the definition of over Rated !!
Every has their own interpretation of over rated
where one thinks price to performance is a rating
others may feel it consumer testimony of the product
Or they judge it on how much product is moved
IE if RE moved 4,000 subs a month people think it's over rated cause EVERYONE is buying it....
Some people HERE are saying a sub is over rated without EVER actually HEARING the sub...
take Fi for example.....
Some people say Fi is over rated yet they have RE subs ?? Same designer ? one priced less with more direct service... Of course every other competing sub is over rated since you are biased to your own system

yes, however it's the physical waves of sound we are concerned about, not the electrical ones. Think of it this way, lets put 2 speaker and face them at each other. They are each playing a 2000hz tone. Now let's wire one speaker out of phase with the other one. The electrical signal (the o-scope reading) being sent to them is identical. However since we wired them 180 degrees out of phase, 1 speaker will **** in at the peak of the wave, while the other will push out, giving you no output.
Soundwaves reflecting off surfaces can cause the same effect. Imagine the wave hitting a barrier and bouncing back, if the frequency of the wave and the length between the speaker and barrier are just right, you could get total cancellation. In real life that doesn't happen though, you'll just get cancellation at certain frequencies and times.
Yes do this in a dual bandPass box with the subs aimed at each other and it will become QUITE obvious VERY fast .

W7 is still overrated.
By your posts, you clearly don't know enough to open your mouth. If surface area was the only thing mattered in car audio then why all the diversity in everyone's systems? There are people running around with a single 10 that would put up a good fight with one of my 18s in right install. There are way too many variables which you are not considering. The vehicle itself, the purpose of the design, power, woofer parameters, sound deadening/lack thereof (in my case //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ) etc.
You should really not say things like that. You've never heard my system, you don't know how loud/not loud or how good/bad it sounds. Not saying one of my 18s would be louder than a pair of W7s, but I would put one of mine up against a pair of 13W7s anyday. If it was as simple as "more surface area is louder/better sounding" then my 2 18s would be louder than any other set of smaller subs on this forum... which IS NOT the case at all.
When I say W7s are overrated, that doesn't mean I'm reffering to this board. Around here, where I live, W7s are overrated just like all of JLs products. I hear people talking about how loud their system gets, and when I finally hear it, I find myself waiting for them to turn it up so its loud. W7s are fantastic speakers, people tend to overrated them because of the name and their bias.

An O-scope DOES NOT know how long it will take the waves to bounce off surfaces and redirect. It does NOT know the enterior of your cabin/room.
Once again, nothing wrong with JL Audio products other than being overrated and overpriced. You guys would know exactly what I'm talking about if you heard some of the jokers around here talk about their JL systems.

Again, not a bannable offense. There were enough people in this thread discrediting what he was saying so even a newb would not have taken it to heart. That is a cop out to say the least. A disagreement is just that. We have them all the time in the sports threads but no one flies off the handle and bans anyone. Again, this is ridiculous.
