most over-rated sub?

Because cancellation is not an electrical property. It does not happen at the output of amplifier. It's a function of the acoustical environment.
If you can't understand that, please, go to http://www.bcae1.com or http://www.the12volt.com and read up. We can't help you learn if you don't have the vocabulary to understand.

If you still don't want to learn, then yes, I will write you off as an idiot.
i know that but does not cancelation occur when the negative peak of one wave hits the possitive peak of another?

lol funny thread...

just wondering from those that said JL is over rated... if JL's entire line up of products cost less would they be considered a good product?

because it seems like if you pay anywhere near JL's MSRP price all the haters will tell you their excuse of why JL blows... (i would never think about paying anything close of their MSRP price either, but i wouldnt say their shiet sucks just cause i cant afford it)

but im wondering if someone said they bought a brand new 13W7 for $300, would you haters still say the W7 is a shiety driver??

edit:

and cotjones i honestly, (with no disrespect intended) think you should re-think some of your posts.... theres a reason why theres about 15+ people ripping you a new @sshole

you've made me embarrassed to own a JL sub

That is an acoustic wave and it doesn't have to be the positive and negative peak but a phase difference between the two that causes interference. You need to use a microphone to measure acoustics.

Sorry fellas, no more amusement tonight.

no one who has actual experience with a well set up w7 system is going to say that they ****. However, certain people make the w7 out to be the ultimate sub, which is far from the truth. If the 13w7 could be had for $300 I would be all over it. However, because they are far more expensive, I would never buy one over a si mag, aura ns series, fi q etc.

"because my 2 different sized subs with the right amps sound great, have a almost perfectly flat responce, and have no cancellation and miniscule total harmonic distortion" you can take my word for it untill i take some pictures of the oscilliscope with it all hooked up... i don't own the amps yet but i have tested the system with my buddies' amps and i allready know what it will sound like, what the oscilliscope reads, and roughly how to set the amps before i even drop them into the car... the resulting setup will/has looked great... have exellent sound quality, blow out my back window, and serve as a testimony that i have no consept of money" don't worry i'll have them within 3 months, and i'll post some readings... till then, you can leave my system alone... of course the POS they are resting in is certainly not their final resting place, that should chang by the end of the year
Oh shit, wait until Eugenics runs across you.

Let's try and explain cancellation and wave interference and why an o-scope can't measure them at the source of the signal (amplifier):

I can try to explain cancellation this way, and yes this does correspond to an o-scope so bear with me. Let’s take a pool, the typical backyard variety. When a person dives in the pool, it makes a relatively small splash/wave. When they do a belly flop, the wave/splash is much larger. It is the same person, from the same height, but different waves. You can measure the force, velocity, etc of the person hitting the water and you can change them (much like you can add power with an amplifier to a subwoofer with the same specs). Problem is, the area the person presents to the surface changes the wave/splash characteristics, ala the more area you present to the water the bigger the waves, given everything else is kept the same.

Now if 2 people jump in the pool at different ends and everything about them (all the variables) is/are the same, weight, area hitting the water, speed, etc, the waves will interfere by getting larger but a small bit of cancellation will still exist or else they would be double the size of the original wave. You can't really predict where they will cancel without some serious math, theory, guesstimation, but the waves do interfere and cause cancellation. You can measure every aspect of the “person” and how they hit the water (the subwoofer and the amplifier power -- much like you would on a scope and by measuring T/S params) but the best way to reduce the cancellation that occurs is by not using things with different variables or characteristics. There are so many factors that influence cancellation that reducing the major variables such as amplifier power differences and different woofers (sizes, brands, etc) will yield the cleanest response. When you start messing with the big variables, you start experiencing major problems that can't be easily measured unless you have really expensive equipment. And yes, they will exhibit cancellation, even if you can’t hear it.

Last, remember you aim the box in a car to maximize the additive properties of sound waves, much like water waves. You are trying to achieve maximum addition and minimal cancellation. So if you can measure cancellation on an oscilloscope, rotating the box 90º won’t affect the sound at all because at the amp, it still ‘looks’ the same.

*If this is totally confusing, that is because I am not the best explainer*

You can hook a microphone to an Osope //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Measurement mics need a power supply, and then of course they have a voltage output which you can connect to anything; however, to truly show cancellation I would like a system that will store the time domain and allow you to keep it in memory so you could play one driver, the other, and then both looking at both the phase and magnitude of the signal. Sure the new O-scopes can do this, but just like a spectrum analyzer you need to spend serious dough to get one.

so by this forums standards....

jl-over priced and better for less....so that means re is the same exact thing but puts an even more big dent in ur wallet?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif
