Magna *** Laude Build

Nice save with the 8" circles. It's looking good man, keep up the good work. Have you finished the x-overs yet?
Thanks. Havent even looked at the x-overs how are they to build? I have never once built crossovers im scared.

I suggest you cover the back of the tweeters with some wood or something to keep the bass from venting thru the tweeters and damaging them. Some tweets are sealed and this isn't a problem, others are open to the back and the bass can push right on the diaphram to vent out the front.
I will always vote for baisc black. Piano black if you want fancy.
I went fancy alright.

very nice. I like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'll assume you're smoking this evening, because this is physically impossible.

He's saying that on a pole vented tweeter that the bass can travel up the polevent and somehow push out the diaphragm. Problem is two fold:
1. The pole vent on such tweeters is so small and there is so little air to compress within the tweeter that the compression alone will prevent anything from happening. Drill a 1/8" hole in a sub enclosure some time, and you'll be surprised to see that there is very little if any airflow out of the hole. The air is moving too quickly to be forced through the hole and ends up choking itself off.

2. A textile dome tweeter is rarely a piece of fabric sitting by itself on a voice coil. Usually, they cover a small semi-spherical piece of foam which provides support. The foam isn't going anywhere, so even if you somehow manage to get air up the pole vent, it won't matter because the air has nowhere to go.

So no, even if you don't have a sealed back tweeter, nothing bad will happen.

Even better. I just looked up the tweets they used in the project, and I have them sitting next to me. They aren't vented.

I was just joking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. On a more serious note how hard is it to build the crossover?

X-overs are simple to build. If you can read a circuit and twist wires together, you can make an x-over. I started with the classic peg board with zip ties and hot glue circuit, then eventually stepped it up to custom printed circuit boards. I like the circuit board method better because it's much quicker and easier. Draw your circuit with a sharpie, throw it in a 2-1 ratio of hydrogen peroxide to muriatic acid, wait 20 minutes, take some acetone to remove the sharpie, drill out holes to put the components' leads in, solder, listen. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ask Noah about the peg board since his method is much clearner than mine.
