low (22Hz) port tuning in real world trunk applications

I'm one of the lucky ones whose IB setup does not lack in output compared to sealed or ported enclosures. Having a trunk car and the ability to go IB'd, I would much rather have this IB setup over a huge ported box. A ported enclosure tuned to 20hz would be even bigger since 20hz would call for a very long port length.
If you have the room, gas, and suspension for a giant ported box, then more power to ya.
And you have what, 250w or something going to your sub (the tc9)? Even with your single IDQ 12 I was amazed at how much output you had.

Immacomputer has pretty much hit the nail on the head IMO...

There is lots of

Keeping cone excursion/distortion low at the low end frequencies is one good reason to port low over sealed...

In my case a pair of 15's or 18's with 1-2kw is also more then enough to get loud without having to tune at 30-40Hz for a huge peak in response... (do you guys use bass boost too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif)

Hell, you don't even need something as crazy as that to have nice sound! My single 12 with 100 watts of profile power is plenty enough to overtake my front stage and if I run any serious power to it, it can still get pretty loud.

I would never tune that low... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif Sounds like it would only be good to act as like a home theater sound, and not musical ,if that makes any sense
i tuned an uberwoofer @ 25 once, and a HC at 26

i loved em both

22 = really long port

if you wanna tune low, go with 25

good point.

I never thought of a ported box playing one octave above tuning acting just like a sealed box of the same size.

makes sense though, and it explains the high end rolloff

tuning lower generally makes it a lot more "musical"

punchy bass is well outside of the resonator... up around 60 to 80Hz and that is all driven from the sensitivity of the woofer itself, port wont make a difference. So if you tune higher, you can get more nasty peak low end bass (35Hz) or if you tune lower around 20 or 25, that base will be a lot more linear with respect to everything else and you generally can get an other 1/2 octave or so of materail that often shows up in music //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

When you start doing alignments yourself, you wont every want to tune high with most of the woofers people tune high with because the responses are very non-linaer, people sadly like this.

You must have a weak *** front stage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
