I don't know the specs for the XXX's, but go for the biggest recommended sealed box. Then let "Tim" have a listen after it's done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

see re recommends 4 cubes sealed.

other people are pointing me towards 9 cubes sealed, saying that way i will have a lot of low-end extension..

i think that's what i'll do, 9 cubes sealed..

you know what i will make this EASSY for you.

get a 8.5 cube box built with 3 six inch holes and get solid mdf caps for them. get 3 aero ports and have em tuned to what ever frequency is best. then you have a hybrid box. for sealed, cap the holes, for ported, drop in the beasts...!!!

ok so i had to have some car work done before i could trade my car in, and keep in mind.. the guy (lets call him tim) knows his shit... if i wanted a box built, or a stereo installed, whatever, i'd go to him. best in the area... done a ton of work for me, quality too.
ANYWAY i started talking to him about my 07 xxx 18". asked him what he would charge to build a 9 cube box for it, and after tossing me a price he went on to say that i should get rid of it and go for 3 12's or 2 15's or something...

and i said well dude honestly i just want to have a system that drops low, can reproduce all the notes decently...and i said an 18" sub with a nice front stage can do that... hes like "noo... not unless you're processing your music...your 18 is a one note wonder"

so i tried to explain to him RE XXX's are some of the most expensive and high-quality subwoofers, and the xxx's are specifically designed for sound quality.

he still told me that i shouldn't do such a big box for 1 speaker, blah blah blah.

my question to you all: is it possible (and fairly easy) to use my XXX 18", yet create a front stage that can reproduce the mid-bass and higher bass notes, yet drop on the lows? his mindset was that 18s can only hit super low notes and that if i keep it i'll be missing out on music.

what do yall think?
the RE XXX is not a soley "SQ" sub.. maybe LSQ or clear SPL.

that being set aside, very nice subs, keep it.

i know everyone already said it, but im gonna say it anyways.

the guy is using common sense in recommending the smaller subs. the problem is....common sense doesnt work in this scenerio.

your natural instinct is to think "oh well yea...the bigger the sub, the slower it will move. and it will rumble like an ox, instead of punch like a lightweight boxer" or some shit like that. thats just the way the human mind works. we think of big things, being slow and lazy, and small things as being quick, and energetic. this doesnt apply to the subwoofer world. you can make almost any sub sound good, if the designers instended it to sound good. hell you can make an spl sub sound good to the average joe (wont impress a SQ guy, but nonetheless).

the fact remains, is that the 18" will sound incredible. i have no experience with the 07's but the 05's were complete low end monsters. a good 30-32hz tune, and you will be set.

please, and i mean PLEASE let him have a listen to this sub when your done. also for box reccomendations i always take the higher value. like if RE says ported to 32hz anywhere from a 2-4 cube box, i always go for the 4 cuber. just my .02.

get some power on that baby and make him a believer.

so now i shouldn't go with sealed?

ok ok.

how about i tell you guys what i actually want, and you recommend me something.

i want my sub and system to go DEEP, and low as ****...to the point of people being scared as i drive by (if i would have it up that loud). i am willing to sacrifice SPL for the deep solid earthquake bass.

ported will be louder, yes, but will it go as deep low and hard as a sealed environment?
