Another crazy-*** sub:

24" sub, but some h/t audiophiles say they have better SQ than some of the newest high-tech 10-12" subs!! I have personally listenend to a Velodyne HGS-18 (High Gain Servo 18" sub) and it AMAZES me that anything else could sound THAT good!

That last sub is a Hartley 24" woofer. It's SQ abilities far surpass what most people consider "SQ" subs of today's time. One of those drivers in an IB setup in a house is just sublime for SQ. Definatley THE best sounding woofer I've ever heard. ALso, that metal thing sticking out of the center of the cone is an extension of the voice coil former...actually the former itself - it was designed that way to help disipate heat.

One of my buddies Stereophile mags had a system review that had a hartley 24" sub powered by a $8,000 25W Class-A amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif :wow: wtf?!? How can you get ANY sound out of a sub this size with 25-freaking watts????!!?!

You'd be surprised how much those 8 watt and 25 watt amplifiers put out. The Hartley is very efficient for its size as well. You can't run T/S's on the driver because it results in bogus numbers, but man-o-man are they incredible.

If I remember correctly, the Hartley 24" sub has a moving mass (Mms) in the 160's or lower. Now that is cool! I need to look up that figure again.
