I am currently running with the BMX/COMP off, and the BBE on. I was running with it off, but have noticed the music seems much more lively with the BBE, and for some reason in my install/vehicle the guitar in certain passages becomes murky and indistinct, lost behind the vocals. (This is speaker independent, I have had 3 separate sets of speakers, and have fought this problem with all of them)
When I turned the BBE on, on the 0 setting, it has really helped to lessen the muddiness of the chorus in many tracks with a "busy" chorus. But be advised that with BBE off you may be able to Xover your mids at 63hz, whereas with it on, 80hz or even 100hz may be advisable. Since I am running passive for the moment, this may affect me more than those running active, but I am just stating what I have found.
The OEM mids are capable of playing very low with a truly flat EQ. Start throwing BBE and other things in there and that can change in a hurry. I currently am crossed at 80hz @ 12dB/oct on my mids, and 50hz@18dB/oct on my sub with the BBE on and set at 0.
As far as cuts go, I have a "parabolic" cut made at 3.15khz with a -3dB cut at 3.15khz, a -2 at 2.0khz, and a -1 at 5kz with the OEM mids. Depending on the material, the cut at 5khz may or may not be needed. Especially if you are running active and have the mids crossed low. I just have noticed a bit of sibilance on certain tracks at 3.15khz that needs some adjusting. The whole rest of my EQ is perfectly flat at this time except I have made a +2 boost at 31.5hz and +3 at 20hz to help bolster the natual bottom end rolloff of my IDQ subwoofer.
Hope this helps you a little!
