just ordered a set of the ID OEM's from hessdawg.

Hey man are they worth the $90? I'm ordering my 4.150 in the next day or two and I was gonna pick these ID's up off hess while he's still got them since they seem to be a great deal! I was thinking about just sticking with the RSD's active for a while and hiding the ID's from myself for a few months so I can really notice the upgrade lol...
Are they worth it though? Do they hit harder/get louder? That's the most important part for me... I CRAVE more midbass!

Also, did you have to shim them out an extra 1/4"?
the mid-bass is very good, really really punchy. and i am sure it will get even better since everybody claims they do after some break in.

they are definitely worth the 90 bucks. no regrets here.

i did shim them out with a 1/4" ring on each door. but a single 3/4" baffle should do. i don't think they will hit the windows or anything. but i tried simply taking the rsd's out and putting in the ID's as is and i guess the cut out is just slightly bigger so i made a pair of rings real quick with a jig saw just cause it was easier.

Ahh I see... well pending the sale of my 2.150, which should be soon, I think I'll pick up a pair of these ID's for later use //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I don't wanna go active and go straight to these ID's... need to slowly progress to really appreciate my purchases ya know? lol

I'm glad you like them man, keep me posted on how much better they get!

will do man.

let me know what ya end up doing.

going active can clean the rsd's mid-range up a bit if you use the right crossover points, but even still these ID's just kill them when it comes to mid-range clarity. that was my main concern. sure extra mid-bass is nice, but when the mid-range is so schrill i can't stand it (only on certain music) whats the use in having strong mid-bass.

the mid-bass on the ID's is definitely punchier and definitely cleaner sounding even using a slightly more aggressive crossover. mid-bass output as of now seems very comparable, could possibly be a hair more but it's to close and to early to tell.

Well as long as the ID's get louder while retaining it's clarity and punchiness, I'll be happy. I've been maxing out the suspension on the RSD's a lot more frequently lately due to my music liking and listening style (windows down)... I just crave more volume and bump... For the $90, I think they're at least worth a try. If I don't like them, I'll sell them and move up to 8's.

I'll keep you posted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

shut your windows and use the a/c!!! it doesn't hurt gas mileage that much on our cars.

what crossover point are you using on the rsd mids? sure they begin to sound unclear when driven hard enough, but i never felt i was "maxing out" the suspension on them. my only complaint with the rsd's was the lack of mid-range clarity, but once i listened to the ID's i also noticed the mid-bass sounding tighter and more controlled as well.

anyway, i'll get to the point... i doubt you will hear the ID mids and want to go right back to the rsd mids.

Hahaha, man I don't care about gas mileage to be honest... a/c vs. windows down is almost no difference, I've experimented. I actually prefer driving with windows down most of the time... I love the breeze and the car drives much better without the a/c on. My RSD's are crossed at 100Hz/18db slope believe it or not, but I have definitely heard more voice coil against backplate lately. Techno/Dance just hits real hard in the midbass, upper subbass region and at the levels I listen at, the RSD's can't handle it without tapping.

Even if I do prefer the RSD mids, which I doubt, I can always just sell the ID's again and move to another driver. I was either gonna go with RS225's or MW172's... big price difference, but whatever lol. I might as well give these a shot along the way as a more economic option //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i thought i liked things loud, but you must like things even louder than i do i guess. i had mine at 80hz/18db and i have never heard the coil smack the back plate. are you 100% sure its not clipping that you are hearing? i doubt it is cause you would think they would be fried by now but i can't imagine making them hit the backplate crossed at 100/18.

have any big boosts down low in the EQ? that could also explain it. when i had the rsd's at 80hz/18db i also had 80hz boosted by 4db and 125hz boosted by 2db and still no problems.

i DO believe ya, but it's just hard to imagine them bottoming out like that.

i would say go with dual 6.5's or an 8. if you are pushing things that hard.

Hahaha, nah man my EQ is totally flat except boosted at 12.5k by 1dB. I can ensure there's no clipping, my gains are set correctly and I'm not even near maxing volume on the HU. They don't bottom out very often, only on certain songs... sometimes it's worse than others, but I have definitely pushed them hard enough for it to be obviously audible and smell coils roasting a little bit. Immediately backed off though.

I won't be going dual 6.5's because I'm not read to mod my door for that. However, 8's are definitely in mind, the only thing that's turning me off of them is that I don't know of many tweets that can get down low enough to pick up from the 8's... apart from horns, I don't quite know what would do the job well.

We'll see.

I've been maxing out the suspension on the RSD's
Well I just went active tonight and I am noticing the same thing with my RSd mids. They seem very over-worked. I have everything crossed at...

3.15 @ 12db/oct

2 @ 18db/oct

80 @ 18db/oct

63 @ 18db/oct

I don't really want to take the tweets any lower because I already have my OEM's in hand and will be pairing them up with the RSd tweets (just need to fab up some new baffles); So I will keep the tweets running pretty conservatively.

Anyways, I tried the mids @ 100 @ 12db/oct and sub @ 80 @ 12db/oct and they still seemed to be over-worked. Gains are pretty darn low and there is no clipping from the deck or the amp. Meh, whatever. I only spent, maybe, 30min fumbling around with different settings, so I still have plenty of work ahead of me before i make any conclusions, but I am not too worried about the RSd mids as they will be replaced shortly.

Side note: mother of god! what a difference time alignment made! So far, this is by far the best tool I have used (I haven't got into the 16-band yet)

are your doors deadened and sealed really well? mids on a good solid baffle? no boosts anywhere in the EQ?

i'm sure i had them moving pretty good at times but i never really felt they were being overworked in the mid-bass department. i had 80hz up 2 notches and 125hz up a notch, 80hz/18db crossover point, and 200 watts per and never felt i was over working them. and if i remember right each step on the 880's EQ is 2db.

and yes! T/A is sweet!

Doors are deadened and sealed, EQ is flat, baffle is stiff. I have a 2 hour drive tomorrow so I will get some time to listen to a wide variety of music and be sure I wasn't hallucinating //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . Again, I'm going to toss the ID's in sometime next week, so I probably am not going to spend a whole lot of time on the RSd's - more or less just acquainting myself with the 880.

Another question @ tC: Do you have BBE or BMX turned on? I'm trying to figure out what these features do.

no bbe or bmx or anything at all. just some t/a and a couple very minor EQ tweaks. thats all.

the image dynamics cx64 do have a removable phase plug like a coax. the also have a big problem with debris getting into the voice coil. these were built OEM for marine use so we had that problem eliminated. before i got these i had a pair of 62's and a piar of 64's both have stuff in the VC and i thin it's $90 to get them reconed
