right now i am running a 500/1 to a 12w6v2 with 10 gauge wire just to make sure the amp worked. im leaving it like this untill i get some 4 gauge wire. I was wondering if i put in a 1 f capacitor and 4 gauge wire if it would make it notiably louder. also wondered if what brand of cap i got would effect the sound any.

Unless the length is pretty short, that 10ga wire is too small, possibly unsafe. I find it odd you found the cash to pay for those fairly expensive JL items, yet couldn't come up with enough for adequate wire.

thats true...forget about the caps upgrade ur alt

i want to get louder spl then what i had b4 or now b4 i had 2 12w0's so i got so much more spl by goin with the w6v2 and i dont want a huge spl i just want the most sound out of the 1 12

well a cap isnt designed to help our your sound any. as for the 4 gauge wire, yea that can make a difference considering your 10 gauge wire is a bottle neck (and like audioholic said, is probably unsafe in this situation as well if your tryin to push TOO much current through it) and not letting more power through. upgrade to 4 gauge please.

ok well i am upgradeing my wire but what would a 10 gauge wire do would it burn out the amp or jus light the wire on fire and cause my car to burn up with everything in it

At best, it will give you some pretty nasty voltage drop, which will hurt your amp/sub output. At worst, it will catch on fire, burning your car to the ground, destroying your stereo, and sending you to heaven/hell in an extremely painful yet completely avoidable way. Any more questions?

i kinda agree with the other dude when he asked why go with jl when going for spl? there are much better spl subs out there for less money---hell even jl audio says that their subs are designed for sq not spl.
