Help with speaker setup

Hi. Newb here. I've been building my own car audio systems for years so I know a little about the setup I'm looking for. It's just the vehicle that has me stumped.

I have a 2004 lexus gx470 with the stock mark Livingston(or whatever) system in it. I'm looking to run an active front stage 2 way component speaker system with a 10 or 12 inch sub enclosure in the rear for now. I'm probably going to buy a 4 channel amp and bridge the sub. The front doors have a 6x9 woofer, 2.5" mid and 1" tweet. I've read with a little power and aftermarket 6x9 for subs the doors rattle alot.

My question is can I run the 1" tweet and 2.5" mid or the 6x9 with the 1" tweet? This is with an active crossover and a sub enclosure in the rear or the vehicle. I can't afford a 3 way component speaker setup in the front doors yet. Or is there a better setup I can do for a limited price. I'm looking to spend $500-$600. I already have the crossover.

Thanks guys. I appreciate any input as the stock system is horrible to my ears.

I want to add 3 way later but I worry about the 6x9 woofer rattling the doors. I guess if I set the crossover correctly I should be able to avoid that right?
Thanks for the input. I'm liking what I see. Is there any reason for the 5 channel amp other than going to 3 way later on?

Proper installation will go a long way to quieting some rattles. As important as the drivers you install.

The 5 channel is convenient, and allows you to simply add a small 2 or 4 channel later when you decide to go to a 3 way setup - IF you do. Those 6x9's have a range to 7k, very good to around 5k. I've done some good testing on both and my recomendation would be to cross them at 3.2, @12- 18db or 3.5k @24db. You may find that you enjoy that enough that a 3-way isn't needed. Should you decide to go the 3-way route, a simple addition of something like this would up the game to the 6x9's at 200x2 (bridged to the 6x9's) moving the Stingers 4 channels to the mids/tweeters. Without a lot of change overall in the installation. When installing the Stinger, use a 2 way fused distribution block so you're set later on should you need the other fused lead. Here's an example of both the amp and the distro.

As for the 6x9's, you want these for all the midbass available. Their kevlar cones are stiff and well damped for good midbass/mid response. Set you HP for that channel at 60-80 hz, the LP to around 3.2k @12-18db or 3.5K at24db play with it to see what blends best with the tweeters and the sub. Since that sub is ported, I would set the subsonic to 1/2 octave below the 37hz tuning frequency of that CT sounds sub or around 25hz and the LP filter to around 80hz.

Get some sound deadening to fix the doors. You don't want to be losing out on all of the mid bass.

Do you have the factory indash CD player, or do you have the factory indash navigation system?

Thank you for the input especially with the cross over points. It's a huge help having some point to start at. On other systems I've spent days dialing in the filter points. I'm going with your recommendations as far as gear. That makes it easy for me rather than spending a ton of time looking at specs and review of all the different gear out there. Thank you again.

Right now I have the stock navigation crap but will soon be changing to another setup. There's a few out there that eliminate the stock climate control buttons and incorporate them into the display or on the side of the display. They also incorporate and update the nav. I still haven't made a choice yet since they are pretty expensive for my budget. That's going to be the last thing I install to complete the system.

I could be wrong but I think the lexus gx470 has some good deadening material in the doors already. Is there something better you can recommend?
