Originally posted by Steven Kephart I know I have had cheap speakers with foam surrounds falling apart. But from what I understand, the treatments used on the higher end products should allow the foam to last for quite some time. As Dan mentioned to me, foam will last 5 years as compared to rubbers 7. But I guess foam does have some advantages over rubber. So material choice is all in the engineering. And as Dan says, speaker engineering is making the best compromises.

Out of curiosity, have you actually heard of people having the foam surround on the W7 fall apart? Or is it just your experience with cheaper foam like mine?
i have experience w/ foam on the w7 and the w6v2 falling apart....... ripping around the whole dang cone

i myself own 2 12" eD k's, they are very clear and very loud, well compared to other local setups. anyways if my k's exceed my expectations. i guess i can only say one thing about the A series, i cant wait to fricken hear it, a couple steps up from the k should be

near-heaven with a very nice price tag.

I have yet to have a single driver of any size report any slap at all.
Interesting. I didn't know that. We did an install in an S10 Blazer with a B12 inverse mounted and didn't get any tinsel slap.

I actually had tinsel slap on my Brahma. But it was because my Soundstream amp was screwed up and broke the tinsel leads for one voice coil. So they were just flapping away. But that's the only instance we have had. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

This thread is actually quite interesting. My turn to contribute...

Lets start off by putting all pricing aside. Imagine we lived in a utopian economy where everything is of no price (economically impossible as it may be [uh oh, I'm ranting again])

All 3 drivers are awesome drivers, all 4 of which I have owned within the past year. I can honestly say that I tortured the hell out of all 4 drivers, all being 12. Each and every one of them took an excess of 2500 watts for burps with ease.

The Brahma and the XXX are very similar in performance. As it has been said, if you like SPL, the XXX has the edge, SQ wise, the Brahma is a bit more potent. How does the e12a fit into this equation? In my honest opinion (using my ears, not paper) the e12a, when in the right enclosure sounds better and gets louder than any of the listed above, the XXX being its closest competitor.

Stephen, no offense intended by this remark, but it seems that you have an obvious bias towards Adire Audio. Of every post of yours that I have viewed, 95% of them are about or pertaining to Adire and the Brahma. Honestly, I can't see how you are able to make any educated remarks about the E12A unless you have heard with your ears what this driver is capable of. You want to look at specs, thats fine and dandy, but there is no tool that can measure the performance of a driver better than the one God himself created; the human ear. Just keep that in mind.

but have you tested the 12 W7?

Yeah I had one for a month...It is hard to find a good amp that runs a solid amount of power at 3 ohms though.

Originally posted by nswartley true....im thinking that you'd have to strap amps together to get enough power (like 2 nine.1's) @ 3ohms.

You'll never be able to get nine.1's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Use a JL 1000/1 on a W7, perfect match...

or PG 1200.1 - does same power at 4 and 2 ohms so i supposed it would be the same at 3
