JL 10W7 sub...

hehe yeah i did make an ass of myself, but with good reason because the first half of this post had ridiculous suggestions....anyways i'm not dissing adire, i've heard ppl rant and rave about adir and audiobahn, i just think as far as SQ goes, you cant beat a w7.... at least thats the opinion i've formulated after listening to tons of people who know what they are talking about.... those brands stick out in my mind as more spl oriented brands....i may be wrong... just my opinion

brahma's are supposed to have better SQ and they are supposed to hit harder too. w7s are great subs dont get me wrong, but they are hard to bring out the full potential in. AND, they are SEVERELY overpriced. a brahma 10 is like 339 shipped while a w7 10 is amazingly more.

well, i just recently got my 10" w7 for 387.50 shipped new but obviously no insurance or warranty.....and i'm also getting the jl 500 amp, so when you say its hard to bring out its full potential, are you talkin about bracing? box requirements? what exactly does that entail?

yea i mean the right box, how to mount it, right amt of power etc. try following the JL specs if you can. i know 2 people with 10 w7s. one has it in a shittily made sealed box and its not good. there is another who has it in one of the JL boxes, and its not too shabby. is the JL manual helpful?

well, i dont have it yet, its shipping b4 christmas.... i know sealed supposed to be 1.25 cubic feet, but thats including speaker displacement i assume, making it more like 1.34 cubic feet or so, and i haven't found any boxes that size..... I got a quesiton for the box type....having it paralell on all sides increases chance of standing waves correct? would anyone suggest not gettinga rectangualar shaped box for that reason? im goin for sq with this sub..

500/1 is perfect for a jl 10w7

did you ever find out about your box - get it custom made by people who KNOW JL.

get your amp tuned by PEOPLE WHO KNOW JL.

if you fool around and have any joe smoe who knows a little about car audio and doesn't exactly know much about how to tune a amp/sub then you're at the wrong spot..

i bet a lot of the reasons why i sounds like **** is b/c ur hu... go buy an eclipse hu today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

even if it doesn't correct his problems, cant go wrong with eclipse hu...wish i got one, but i got alpine and im happy....

anyways heres a link to the box i was thinking of getting http://www.subzoneusa.com/images/h110-s125a.jpg

If standing waves dont matter, then why do any manufacturers make hatch shaped boxes? is the difference not that significant. I read at Audionutz.com or something, a guy whos really into professional sq, that its better to have any shaped other than a rectangular one for that reason.... maybe im wrong. I have a 93 240sx fastback, so the trunk is free air to the interior and i was thinking of firing it upward off the glass or something, or angling it forward with a hatch box..... for sq, is that a reasonable decision? thx alot

hatch boxes are built because they fit into a hatch better, the best design would be a noutilus like "snailhouse" design, for optimal SQ, but a box would set you back about 2 maybe 3 thousand us$, so i suggest you stick with a rect/hatch one.

btw, anyone know where 2 buy type r 12's for under 300 us$ in Holland(cause thats what they ask at the local dealer, and i think its ****ing ridiculous, as you guys can get them for 150 the pair off ebay, but they won't ship:mad: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

It surprised me as well. It is a Pioneer Appradio on a JL HD750/1. The adjustments I made were lower the 100Hz to 50% and raise the subwoofer...

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage
