i did not say you didnt know more than me, jlaine, im sure you do..because you are more experience in car audio than i am (me being such a youngin, and just gettin started in this) but nswartley and me were both on different subjects so we werent understandin anything that each other was saying.

this thread went wayyy off topic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

You claim you are such a youngin, why then were you so agressive in your stance that a factory head unit is junk? You have such a firm belief of it, but do you have the background proof to verify it? Just relax a little bit, remember to read all the information before you throw an idea out the window.

Trust me, once you peel away the name that is on the face of a lot of the products you have, and you find out that 50% of them are built in the same factory, and often the two may even be identical aside from some cosmetic changes, you'll just forget the name - lay back - and enjoy the music.

i still would prefer an aftermarket than a factory hu in all aspects, thus the reason why i have one...... thus the reason why i recommended one....

maybe b/c all the factory hu's i've came across are shit....

i do not claim i am a youngin, i am a youngin (14 to be exact, if you wanna see my drivers license ill prove it to you) and seeing (more like listening in car audio) is better than just reading information, i have heard plenty of stock head units because most people do not have aftermarkets...

but the aftermarkets make the sound much different than stock, and you can tweak with EQ if you are not satisfied with an aftermarket, and sometimes you can change some of the difference in sound by usin the stock eq (like 6 band, like dodge's and chrystler's vehicles, and GM) but of example, pioneer has a 13 band eq, and my friend across the street has tweaked his and it sounds way better than my cousins (same exact car and year) and also aftermarket hu has more features like GIFS (movies) the passenger can watch and stone over (lol).

just my .02, but i would rather have aftermarket than stock.

now lets quit fightin!!!!!!

Umm... Question.... So I could use a factory HU and it would be just as good as an aftermarket one??? That sounds far fetched, but is that what your sayin'???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

does full output include the frequency range of both treble, midbass and sub bass? or are you specifically talking about the signal sent to the subs, especially considering it takes more distortion to become audible in that range of frequency so maybe the HU does in fact effect it in a tiny way but that overall makes no audible difference? i dunno just rambling and tryin to figure things out, peace

Originally posted by Jmac First of all, if you have an external amp that can go down to 200 mV and your head unit puts out a 200 mV signal at say 3 volume ... guess what, you'll get the same volume as if it were a head unit with a 4 volt signal set at 4 volts ...

But I don't know anything about car audio ...
he does not have a external amp after his stock deck, so why even say that? i am talking about JUST THE STOCK DECK and THE AFTERMARKET DECK...nothing else.

and you were saying "... guess what, you'll get the same volume as if it were a head unit with a 4 volt signal set at 4 volts ..."

so yes you were saying it will be the same as a aftermarket deck.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

I dont wanna start fights...this forum is for imformation, not to see who knows the most about car audio... im sure this thing between stock and aftermarket decks will never be solved.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif :banghead:

oh duh... i forgot about that 500/1... i was thinkin about that 4 channel amp some one else brought up... see i even forgot the topic of this thread

Originally posted by Jmac The thing is that aftermarket head units are better (better processors, better anti-skip, multiple pre-outs, etc. etc. etc.)... what I'm saying is that factory head units are perfectly fine if you configure them properly (Especially if you mod yours like Jlaine :p)
exactly, but for like all the extra features you just have to have, (like dvd video and ps2 or whatever you want it to be) you just have to have an aftermarket HU. so i guess it is solved...

back to the main topic, but what exactly was it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Originally posted by triggah Hey, what's up guys...

I am new to this board and I am basically a newbie at this whole car audio world...

Anyways... I just bought a 2003 Accord coupe and I wanted to set up a sound system...

I went to three high end store here in Toronto and everyone kept biggin up the JL10W7 sub... Being new and straight up confused in this whole car audio thing I went along with what these sales guys were pitching at me...

So I bought 1 JL10W7 sub in the box and a JL 500.1 amp..., now my system is presently stock factory (speakers and deck) but I know what I like when I listen to music and I am somewhat not impressed with the 10W7...

Don't get me wrong the thing is a beast and pumps some crazy *** bass, but I can't say much about the quality of the bass... It doesn't hit every note, It just doesn't punch too well and doesn't sound too good... I get a lot of air but the bass quality seems a little distorted and not up to par to what I was expecting. Plus it is definitely not loud at all, I want to be able to hear this thing coming down the street and not only by standing a few feet away from it.

When monday comes along I'm going to talk to the sales guy and see what are my other options.

But in the meantime can you guys recommend me on what I should get... Remember what I am looking for most importantly is QUALITY, a sub or two that can hit EVERY NOTE crisply and that can be heard from a distance. Money is not really a big issue but Im not also trying apply for bankruptcy in the near future... So please give all your opinions...

Thanks ahead of time...

PEACE
- Steve

Incorrect. You can interlace nearly any of them into a standard audio stream... If you want to be fancy and use a switcher, you can build one for much cheaper than you can buy a deck that will pass all of that information through it.

I cannot build a DSP yet... I can build an amp though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

For what it is worth, tapping into an audio stream is a cakewalk... building a switcher is very simple also... the only reason the decks make it look hard is because some of the mainstream ones use a communication hub to connect to their own specific device, it's a great way to price fix things, and to rob the consumer...
