Is turning gain all the way up necessarily a bad thing?

Did you miss the part where I said to DO SOME RESEARCH. If every newb came in here and made a new thread so that we could teach them everything...well that would be like a full time job. There's plenty of guides, and past questions built up in this forum to more than educate you on EVERYTHING car audio...so before you get pissy with me again...DO SOME ****ING RESEARCH
it already is, there seems to be at least a thread a day about how do I wire up a capacitor ....

But isn't the point of a forum to ask questions? I asked a simple question, got my answer, and now realize that I need to do research to come to solve my problem. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

It's even worse when the little peckerheads come in here and won't listen to a **** word we say...they need to be told by a hundred different people how to do something before they believe it...AND THEN THEY GET PISSY ABOUT IT

How do you wire up a capacitor? Not that I ever would or anything haha

I'll look into everything once again.
What are the speakers, what amp powering them, and how did you install them?
My amp has a protection system. But you're saying that doesn't necessarily mean that it is stopping all the clipping?
It won't stop any clipping. "Protection" means some protection from low voltage on the power input, shorting the output connections and some thermal protection. It has nothing to do with clipped audio signals.
Ah. I'm new to this whole concept of matching the signals, I've always heard people saying to turn up the gain until you hear distortion. Not saying that that's the correct method of tuning an amp or anything.
That is how I set my main speakers, but it won't work on subs because you can't hear the distortion. I used a dummy load, a test tone, a calibrated input singal and a true RMS meter. Even then, without an osilloscope you can't be exact, but I'm confident I'm close enough for my needs.
So seeing if the amp starts getting excessively hot is a good indicator of it?
No, excessive heating is a sign your already way beyond the design limits. That would be like holding your little brother under water till he stops kicking to determine when you should let him up.
My woofers are rated to 0.7 cbf and upwards, which is about what my boxes are though. They are in truck boxes.

I'm not trying to get as much bass as I can, I just want the clarity I don't seem to be getting at the correct input.

Thanks a lot for how much you are helping me.

Do more research on how others have used the same subs in your type of truck. What did they do to get what they wanted and what didn't work. Also what is your box made out of? Prefab boxes ****. Better box design and contruction can make a big difference.

You can leave this thread, if you want. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

maybe i missed the post, what do you consider turning the gains UP?? moving from .2 or 1v to 6v or 8v is actually turning them DOWN to adjust for a higher input voltage.

THIS. Reminds me of that idiot wishbone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh:

Actually isn't it lowering sensitivity?

Two 12" Infinity 1250 subwoofers, SVC, 4ohm; Hifonics Brutus BXi1210D amplifier, 4 Gauge Stinger wiring kit. The amp, although a mono amp, has two sets of speaker channels...didn't think it would for a mono, I thought I'd have to wire them in parallel. So anyway, I wired them in, one speaker on each of those speaker "channels". Assuming that is like wiring them in parallel, that drops the amp to a 2 ohm load, and the amp is 900 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Ah, I understand. Thank you.

After reading your posts, that's what I was starting to think they meant. Because you said bass distortion is very difficult to hear. Thanks for clearing that up.

lol. Okay, thank you for clearing that up before I broke something lol

You're right about that. My boxes are most likely shitty.

btw OP, the amp has 4 conects so you can wire a dvc sub directly into amp

hence the 2 pos, and 2 neg

wouldn't matter which pos or neg you used.

And I would def recommened invesnting into building a box and getting a DMM for any future car audio dabbling

It's not two channels. It's still a mono with 2 outputs of a mono channel. Easier to use bigger wire, etc.
I couldn't think of what to call it. But oh, that makes sense.

...it seems like the box is the weakest link here. Guess I need to start reading on how to build my own, and buy up a couple sheets of MDF...
