that's my question, is the $190 for just TWO speakers? i was under the impression that i would need to buy 2 sets, one set for the front and one for the back making it $380 total.
In the car audio world, for the most part we only put "mid/high range" in the front. Some people say, "It's like a concert"-- don't listen to them. #1: It's a lot less expensive if you just put it in the front, #2 You WON'T hear a difference.
The whole concept of it is that you, the driver, will hear it very clearly and loud. If you have passengers in the back, they will be overwhelmed by the bass. Since you aren't running a sub (which is a mistake, since component speakers are not meant to have a lot of low end, just enough to support the bandpass between the 60-150-ish Hz range.), you will be lacking a lot.
Get a nice cheap sub, and you'll be golden with:
-The SET (That is, the 2 mid, 2 tweeters, 2 crossovers) of Components,
-A 2-Channel Amp... it doesn't have to be Sundown, or Kicker... any amp will do. Just go on the classified section and look for a 2 channel amp in the 100W RMS @ 4-ohm range
-Headunit.
If you have those three things, you will be fine. Now, I'll warn you now: It WILL leave something to be wanted. The components will not give you a full rich range, and it will sound kind of "hollow". But a nice cheap 8" Sub with a matching amp, and either buy a prefab box or have someone make you a nice small ported box tuned low, so you'll have a nice roll off.
Then you'll have yourself a nice little system.
PS: This is NOT a cheap game. Car Audio is expensive. You have to throw down a grand just for a novice set up.
EDIT:: As for your actual CHOICE of equipment: It's wonderful! Truly great. ID make great drivers, Sundown has the same layout as the big names, and are somewhat less expensive, and the owner's a cool guy, and the 9887 is one of the best HU on the market. (At least last time I checked).
