Is my sub bottoming out? or?

You could check this by turning your subsonic filter up and then playing the same song or frequency again at the same volume and if you no longer hear the sound you were probably bottoming it out.
How would a subsonic filter tell you if you were bottoming out? To test something you want to recreate the problem. A subsonic filter would just cut those frequencies out where it's happening.

I would turn the bass boost down. Chances are it is bottoming out. Continuing to bottom out the coil and it could start to deform/mushroom out. That would seize the sub up and turn it into a paperweight.

Or its such a low frequency that you could just be hearing mechanical noise from the woofer. Hard to tell without hearing it in person.

Sealed box, most likely aren't going to hear mech noise unless it's bottoming out.

not entirely true. but then again most pple dont play test tones as low as 15 hz like i do.

OP, you most likley are bottoming out ur sub like everyone else has said. turn ur bass boost down, and keep ur volume at a sane level. if you hear that noise turn the volume down! go and get an amp with a subsonic filter and your problem will most likley go away. set ur subsonic at ~26hz. this should give you a good enough roll off.

Yes but if there was a certain frequency where he was bottoming out and turning up the subsonic eliminated the said frequency causing the sub to bottom out wouldn't that fix the problem and tell you that you were bottoming the sub out? I looked at it like the rule of thumb for about turning your subsonic to about 5hz below tuning of course the box is sealed but I felt the principles were still similar.

Thanks, I was kinda looking for someone to tell me what to do lol.

I am thinking of getting the new JL 1200/1 v3 slash amp, a shop near me can give me a good deal on it. And then down the road if I ever want more bass, I should have enough head room to run 2 subs. Whatda ya think?

i like the JL slash amps. but there are better amps for the money. i cant help you pick an amp simply because i havent been able to decide on an amp for over 6 months...

those are good amps but how much is their good deal ?

lol, my main reason for the slash amp is the W7 is 3ohm svc, and the slash amp will give me rated power from 1-4ohm.

Hard to find a amp that will give me 1000w at 3 ohm.

I think it retails at 1300-1400 right now. He will give it to me 950 no tax. He said he just bought 50,000$ worth of JL so he got a good deal.

Is it worth it at that price? I know they hold resale value pretty good.

Yeah, I live in Canada. All audio equipment seems to cost more here. And if I bought in the classifieds or online shipping, duty and customs is a *****.

I do also want good clean power, not that audiopipe stuff, or I mean popcorn sounds lol

Do you guys recommend any amps that can give me 1000w at 3 ohm?

yeah shipping might be a pain but you could get so much more amp for the money. my amp is clean power as well as alot of others dc sundown skar etc. look into a saz2500 you can snag one for around 800$ brand new with warranty puts out 1200 @2 ohms so youll be right around 1k at 3 those amps are under rated. plus if you upgrade yoru substage eventually youll have a 1 ohm and below stable amp for the future
