If my cd player doesn't work, will aux still work if it's on the same button?

Hi, just have hopefully a simple question. I have a Honda Accord 2005 that still has the standard factory stereo (no navigation or anything extra). My cd player doesn't work, which is fine. But the button for AUX is the same one (It says CD/AUX). When I press this button nothing happens, it stays on radio or wherever it is.

I want to install an aux cable to hook my phone up to my car's speakers, but I don't want to spend the money and labor to do it if it won't work. So my question is, if the CD player button is now doing nothing and doesn't work, will my AUX also not work if I install a cable? Or are they separate?

Would be so appreciative if someone could answer this. Thank you so much.

Auxillary cables are simple 3.5mm to 3.5mm wires that conect to the front panel of the radio from the headphone jack of any player. So no labor is required to connect them, and the cost is about $7 in any gas station. Most radios change input to AUX when the button is pressed, BUT, I have seen some that do not change unless a source is connected to them. If that does not work, you can try the following.

Thanks. So hopefully when there's an input to the stereo the AUX button will work, even though there is no response from it now when it is only a broken CD player.

Any chance you tried this and did it work?

I have a similar issue. 2006 Honda Accord EX, CD player and all the associated buttons do not work whatsoever. My assumption is that if the button controls are not operational that I will not be able to connect an AUX/bluetooth adaptor via the pin connector on the CD changer.

Really interested in getting off the FM transmitter, but don't want to install a navigation system or any other bells and whistles.

The buttons may only become available once a signal is present. Just like your tv does not let you select the gaming HDMI if your Playstation is not on.
The aux button is shared with the CD player, so it does technically have a signal going in for the CD player. The pin connector I'd be attaching the aux/bluetooth to is attached to the CD player. The CD player initially worked (2016-2017), then progressively deteriorated until probably 2018 it was completely dysfunctional, as well as all the buttons. Still has 6 CDs in it lol. Radio works just fine. The pattern of deterioration makes me think something in the electronics is fried, it's just a question of whether it's the player itself or deeper in the system where it will impact an aux as well.

It might be worth trying it for shits and grins, but I have a feeling I'll pull it all open to plug in the connector and it won't work anyway. The mod I have my eye on is $140 which is the main reason I'm hesitating so much.

I remember using one of those many years ago to play my CDs through the radio. I had a 10-disc changer in the trunk, and it worked fine.

When your CD player was working fine, it was definitely sending an activation signal. When an AUX was connected it would over ride the CD input, hence the shared button.
Now, about all those buttons that do not work. Are they meant to control anything other than CD options?
