I Need A New HDTV...Budget is 1500 MAX!

I bought my tv from vanns.com. I got a 720p 56" JVC HD56G787 for $900 shipped including a dvd up-converter. I like it but it takes 60 seconds to fully turn on and if you turn it off it take 90 seconds before you can turn it back on again from the bulb colling down.
I like the Samsung and Sony DLP's myself.

Buying a Tv online can be risky, but its just like everything else you buy online. I have sold brand new tv's with FULL installs of surround sound, turns out the tv was defective out of the box. I have then also had installs where tv's are perfectly fine for years.

The real point is, finding a tv that is of good quality that suits "each individuals needs".

If you like your JVC, then you like it. Thats really all that matters.

If people like their vizio's... then so be it.

They just are really really bad tv's when you compare to what else is on the market.(For not even that much more $$)

i picked up a Toshiba Regza 42" LCD at ABC Warehouse for 800...love it. Its only 720p but thats fine for i use it for.

REGZA FTW

I just got a Pioneer PDP-4280HD for 1499 on closeout at best buy. Its only a 42" but its worth it.
Pioneer is an excellent purchase pretty much no matter which line you buy. Obviously their Elite line is better than their PDP... but I am a big fan of their PDP's as well.

Some poeple knock the cheap LCD's and rightfully so. most are crap and don't work worth a shit. I bought my parents a Westinghouse for Christmas and it works great. The only thing you need to do is hook it up to a surround sound system cause the speakers in them ****.

This was the T.V. I bought them: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8250144&type=product&id=1169512290376

They get alot of channels free in HD and it looks decent. That and I only Paid $449 w/ 4 year warranty.

My Vizio serves its purpose. It makes my games look much better than SD content. I definitely would have gotten a PANNY, Sony, Samsung, if money allowed, but I had other factors to consider. I may go to a college dorm soon. I don't want somehting *relatively* expensive and easy to steal for eveyrone to see, or get damaged. Granted, I'd make the person who broke it pay for it, but 500-600 is easier to fork over than 8-900. Plus, at 32 inches, I couldn't justify the 3-400 more the brands I really wanted. By time I get a better paying job, and HD content is necessary, I'll get a TV worth the cash.

Buying for your parents...usually cheaper is better anyways because most older people are so used to Standard def that anything high def looks 100% amazing.

Well yeah HD anything will always look better than SD.

Be very careful with the sony projo's. Sony does not make them anymore. What you see now is what is leftover. They are going going to make LCD's from here on out.

Darn good ones too..

I know, which is why it serves its purpose for now. I am definitely a sucker for techy stuff, but priorities else where come first.

I have the 37" of that TV and love it!

I also have a Sony XBR5 and love that too, lol!

You get what you pay for to some degree. The color gamut on the westinghouse for lack of a better word, sucks. It takes a lot of tweaking to properly calibrate it to something that looks like a truly accurately represented picture. That said, they are cheap, and depending on your purposes it isn't a horrible set I guess, but for this guy, I wouldn't recommend it.

Basically, he needs to narrow it to DLP, Plasma, or LCD and then we can make recommendations, otherwise we are just debating values and merits all over the place until we really understand the form factor that he wants.

If you are on a budget look at the LG 47LC7DF at Circuit City. It is hands down one of the best HDTV's that you can buy for under $1500. We have it at one of my jobs, and it's a heck of a lot clearer than my Samsung LNT4661F.
