I broke my jl10w0 today....one of the leads that connects to the cone is frayed and hanging by like a thread of the tinsel...my question is can I get it fixed? is it worth it? i've had it a few years now...the box is in perfect condition, could i just get another 10w0 and slap it in there?

ya i didn't smell any burnt smell or anything...i don't think i burnt the vc....um so what do i do just attach it to the cone with solder? i am not getting any sound right now even tho some of the lead is attached...won't it just come off again?

Bend the lead out far enough so it doesn't happen again...and re-solder it together.

Does re-attaching the lead (even if temporary) bring the sub back? If it doesn't work when connected, there's something else going on...

it's weird it seems to be working now....the lead is not totally broken but is very frayed...i'm sure it will keep cutting out tho... don't want to have to deal with it all the time

who wants a type r? and I have the box for the jl I think I will just go with that...for now i've got an old kenwood 12 in a q logic bandpass box...sounds like mud hitting a brick wall

you can send it to jl and get it fixed, buy a new one from a random online store or a jl authorized dealer for like 80, or you can solder the lead back to the terminal

just re-soldering the lead as best as you can, be careful not to get any on the cone or any metal cause it will burn. re-soldering will be cheaper than getting a different one, only get a new one if you werent satisfied with the sub when it worked good.

how much for jl to fix it bhsswrstlr? I was bummed that it didn't totally blow up or do anything other than stop working when it died... the repairs it will need are beyond anything I can do, i'm sure i could fix it temp. but i'd always have to be messing with it...both the tinsel leads are extremly frayed and the space between the cone and basket is pretty tight. I bought another one last night at tweeter for 75...it was an open box...kind of wish i got a new one for another 25...does it really have to be broken in at low volume? I don't know if this was done...i bumped it a bit last night but i turned the volume up gradually as I drove, i didnt just crank it right off the bat...

get a type R

they'll work in the same enclosure.. nad the type R will be a hell of alot louder and sound better.
