how to check a sub..

I was refering to a situation where u listening to it at loud volumes buit don't have enough amp power
still say he's running 600rms clean power, putting that that is the most the amp will put out clean will in no way hurt the sub... when you have your hu up to where you set your gains it will be pushing around 600 rms clean, again just think about it

Well I emailed sundown I'll wait for there return email I wish I understood the upgrade options a little more and the pricing I might see about beefing these up some

if you smell it burnt there is NO warrenty because that is just abuse most likely clipping.

you did the right think contacting the manufacture because if there is a broken glue joint it will be covered..

There are guys on this site tht knws much more then what I do.....but is the subs getting the ryt amount of rms power? Cos I knw tht underpowering a sub causes distortion and damages subs no matter what!....is the resistance on the amp the same as the subs final load?....rms affects the subs overall performance....head room on amps is key to cleaner bass frequencies
Don't post because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

A sub is rated at it's power based on thermal and mechanical limits. If you're underpowering your sub with a clean signal, you're not reaching either of those limits so please tell me exactly how you are going to damage your sub if you are using it within it's limits?

Underpowering a sub will NOT damage it unless you are sending it a clipped signal

Well not arguing but drive my truck maybe like 3-4 miles a day .. And this is the 1st time ive drove it in 4 days so that should tell u how little play time these have on them

I'll be pissed if I gotta pay for these being fixed with that little of play time on them

Would that cause a burning smell?? Hell these only have about 20hrs of play time and are less then a yr old

This is exactly right. A burning smell is the glue on the coil getting hot. This is do to over power and/or clipping them. This can from incorrect settings, voltage drop, or even something odd/off in the enclosure.

Simply just fixing the sub might be the answer, but the likely solution would be figure out why it is happening first. So you don't have to fix it again.

So with that lets start with simple things.

What are your settings on the amp and head unit?

What is your electrical like?

Which sub is having issues? Closer to the port or further away?

How is everything wire up?

settings on the hu all flat no bass boost or anything.

gain setting about a 1/4 up ,low pass like 120 range no boost on amp , subsonic like 20 hz

electric 270 amp alt to die hard agm under hood to 2 xs3400 in cab dont drop outta the 14's

sub furthest from port

wired to 1 ohm dual 4 ohms subs checked with volt meter
