need help with my sub at low volumes

I finally got my new head unit installed (Pioneer x5500bhs). The rest of my system is in my sig. The issue I'm having is that i usually listen to low volumes (between 8-12), and I guess that is too low for me to pick up the bass frequencies. I changed my sub crossover to 100hz, and turned loudness to low. This let's me feel the bass even at low volumes, but I've read about how the loudness setting can clip your sub. Is there any way i can enjoy bass at low volumes? Turning the music up hurts my ears.

Loudness is designed to be used at low volumes
I won't damage my sub? I'm prone to breaking things and this is unfamiliar territory for me. Right now i have loudness off, my sub at +6, 100hz, and my eq is 40hz +12, 80hz +12, 200hz +4, and at a volume of ten the bass is perfect. I also left the bass boost at 0. Are these settings fine, or would leaving these at default and using just loudness be better for my sub?

Should be fine..won't start clipping until u really turn up volume..just make sure amp is correctly set up gain wise..also if your sub isn't getting stinky then u should be okay..

I haven't noticed a smell, just that my headlights flicker and i hear an engine hum. Is there a difference between me using the loudness feature vs using it how i have it set right now (with the sub at +6 and eq at +12, +12, +4 for 40, 80, 200)?
