God is much more concerned with the condition of your heart then of your stuble. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

LOL! Haven't we all. However that is not what I meant.

...but you knew that already. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Since we're cracking open that can of worms, let's narrow things down a bit. Depending on Getwild's context he may still have a point.
You do not need to clean up your life in order to come to Christ. God does not require a person who has yet to learn Godly examples of living to act as if they have, in order to be accepted by God. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I totally agree. I wasn't talking about a person that is ignorant to the will of Jesus, and is wanting to come to Him. I'm talking about 'Christians' that know better, and that know right from wrong concerning the Lord's will //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

One of the great things about religion, mainly Christianity, is how the Bible is written. As you can tell by 30 pages of replies, it is open to interpretation. Personally, I believe in God and all that; but I also believe that the Bible, as a book, has been horribly mutated and corrupted by human hands (King James pwns you). The concept is still there, but the all important details are gone, making my bible a nice symbolic paperweight. One of those things where we all gotta find our own direction.

We're all in this together, but we all die alone. Where you go from there is a choice you don't know you already made.

I believe the KJV is WAY more accurate than the NIV and all these 'new' translations.

But regardless if it has been tampered with or not, that's why you pray to the Lord Jesus for your understanding.

Btw, it has been tampered with. I have the 'Lost Books' & 'The Apocrypha', which should have never been taken from the bible in the first place...

I also find it interesting that satan has people to corrupt the Lord's word, while the Koran and other so-called holy scriptures go untouched. Satan knows who God is, he's not worried about Allah or Budah, etc., because all those 'Gods' are traced back to him (Satan).

I'll agree that the KJV is a very accurae translation, along with the NRSV but as word for word translations, there are actually areas where thought by thought translations like the NIV or NLT are more accurate to the message attmepting to be conveyed in the original languages. This is why it is helpful for the student who really wants to dig into the word to study a variety of translations. On the other hand, most Christians, especially new Christians find the KJV very difficult to read and understand and will often give up on trying to pursue any real understanding of it before they even get started. For this reason other very accurate translations such as those mentioned above can help build a very solid foundation that can be built apon when they are ready to tackle the finer nuances of older translations.

While I agree the lost books and the Apocrypha add some helpful historical detail to the word of God, I do not believe they should be viewed as inspired by God. There are numerous contradictions and conflicts to the Bible that prompted their exclusion in the first place. A few very mis-guided teachings have been birthed out of those writtings. While they are a good read, I would have to disagree with you that they should have been canonized with the rest of the disciples Apostles and prophets.

I agree completely with your last point, those teachings that are not a threat to Satan and his work he has no need to mess with except for that rare occasion to throw people off. God's word however is always under attack.

as far as the lost books and the apocrypha, I feel it's up to the reader to dismiss the writings or not. That's why I feel it should've been kept part of the bible.

Plus there are still more books besides the lost books and the apocrypha that aren't in today's bible.

I hear your reasoning, I just feel like I said earlier, it should be up to the reader to dismiss the writings. Not upto some men who feel like they're doing it in MY best interest.

I hear ya though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

ummmmm, wow....

i just finished reading all 30 pages of this "debate"...(including orisis(i think that's the s/n) entire first post)

in all honesty, the best reading i've done in awhile.

i want to thank dbfan, acid and squeak for the comedic relief. i had more then a few good laughs whilest asborbing this novel.

and i've come to the conclusion that while i believe in a higher power, i don't know who or what it is. does that make sense? anyway, to explain a little (after orsisis and frranddffurter(sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif ) posts, i don't have to worry about the longest one here.) better...

i used to think evolution was it. i mean, my burmese python has stubs of what used to be legs by it's anus (i forget their technical name) that a person can see. as a matter of fact, they help to determine the *** of the snake (offtopic, i know)..

anyway..i then grew to believe that there is a God and He created evolution just to test our faith. without quoting specific passages ( i couldn't if i wanted to) the bible makes references to God testing and trying our belief. while at the same time, how could this God let the churches ruin what He's strived so hard to achieve?

long story short, churches are a business, most generally. i don't like them and i won't go. there have been two instances in which i found church to be what the bible said it should. the salvation army and a all-black church in the town i grew up in. the SA didn't talk down about other denominations, but instead focused on believing in Jesus and helping the community regardless of opinion. as a side note, i learned to play the trumpet and piano(somewhat) there. the black church was just full of energy and focused wholely on the good things of bieng a christian.

(not so short,eh?) inthe end, i'm at a crossroads. i've been baptized and "born again" but i don't hold a lot of faith in the churches purpose of doing it. (more for show then go, so to speak) maybe one day i will.

i'm not afraid of death. it comes to all of us. i'm not afraid of my afterlife,if there is such a thing. i've come to live my life as if today is my last day and i have no regrets for the things i've done nor the decisions i've made. i will have none the day i die.

am i saved? i dunno, but i think in the back of my mind there is some belief. i know there is doubt, but that doubt extends to both sides. one day, i will have my answers. when that day gets here, i'll know.

btw, frrankandfurter(ppl really need easy s/n's..like mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/ready2go.gif.6557fa3d88b9eaca9c7b8efb9cbd02ed.gif )...i want to thank you for handling yourself that way you have. you've had a few opportunities to get real rash for good reason, but you didn't. i applaud that.

and that is all....

except

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif

nothing has impeded human progress, exploited oppressed or killed other humans more than christianity. you are blind.

every religion says there is but one, or one set, of true god(s), what makes christianity correct?

very few documents actually contradict themselves more or as often as the bible, which, by the way was written by people, not god. more importantly these are people who condemned and killed others for not believing in what they wrote. (hmm, if we cant control people by just killing them, why dont we brain wash them into believeing if the dont give us their money and become our part time slaves, they will go somewhere worse than death....hm...lets call it hell"

i jsut don't agree that the nicest person or greatest benefactopr to human society could be sent to eternal ****ation for privately being atheist, and that for centuries your religion has manipulated idiots into killing such people to send them there quicker?

i contend that we are both atheists, i just believe in one fewer god than you do. when you understand why you discredit all other gods, you will understand why i discredit yours

anyways, dont waste your time praying for me either, i can fold my hands and talk to myself just fine
