How can I make my sub kick clearer

Hey,

I want my sub to thump and kick to the drums and be clear and precise but at the moment I would say its a bit muddy. Its loud for sure but its just not that clear if that makes sense. Instead of being able to clearly make out each individual thud and drum its more like I hear the kicks and thumps along with a ton of low bass that kind of takes the edge off the kicks and thumps. It's very hard to describe but I hope you get the idea.

I remember when my friend got his first sub it sounded so clear, loud and precise to every beat and every drum and that was a cheap active edge sub. I want that kind of experience. At the moment its more like the low bass is resonating around the cabin and destroying the music rather than acting like a speaker, hitting its note then moving on.

Hope that makes sense if anyone has any suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

put the sub in a 1/4 wave T line box and you'll get the clearest sounding bass you've ever heard.

Is this a T box?

I originally had it in a small sealed box, I think it was a 0.4 box but still the actually start of the bass like the kick bit that should hit you hard isn't really there all the low bass is there so its more like each low bass note blends into the next, that part sounds good, but the hard kick at the start of each note is missing. If I listen through my normal amped speakers that sounds how it should do it kicks but of course the bass is low which is why I wanted the sub.

My current set up is I have the sub mounted in the ski pass between the back seats, if your search: "e46 convertible ski hatch sub" you will see what I mean.

What kind of enclosure could I build behind that to make it kick hard as I want? I currently just have it mounted on a board and the low bass is great but no kicks or thumps really, I kind of expected this though as I need a box on the back which I haven't got round to yet. Should I build a 1L box behind it thats sealed? The T box sounds good but not sure how I would do it with the current set up?

Thanks for the help guys!

It's all in the box. Also what you are looking for is mostly in the mid bass.
Yep exactly the mid bass kick at the start of each bassy note this is what I am missing, the sub should still do this right even though its mid bass? My speakers do it a bit but nowhere near what I am looking for. See my response to tahoe above for some more information on my current set up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thanks

What kind of enclosure
I had it in a 0.4cubic sealed box when I got it and it was insane low bass but still the kicks at the start of each thump were kind of subdued, the low bass is great and exactly what I want but I want each note to be clear with the thump at the start of each note which is missing currently. On my alpine speakers I have this, mid bass kicks on each note which makes the song sound clear but with the sub it just seems to be missing the hard hits, they are definitely there but the low bass completely drowns out the kicks which I thought I should be the other way round.

Currently I have it mounted in the ski pass see my others responses for more info on that. Im going to build a box behind, what do you think I should do?

Thanks man

Yes-sir-eee. the only difference between a reg proper ported box and t-line is the t-line needs to be bigger in order to accomidate the very long port length.

I can tell ya right now...this enclosure, can almost play everything....

This is the T line box. You'll want to buy some design blueprints off @CSCStang who is the master of t lines. Whatever box you think of building will be sh*t in comparison sorry to say(the design is extremely important, you cant half @ss it with very limited knowledge). You box should just be close to the trunk/hatch lid firing the rear not forward to any ski hole...
