Hey everybody, just so you know, I am totally new to building and I am getting alot of great info off you all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and I have a few questions that I am currently looking for answers to...

But, I have one specific question right off the bat.

I bought a used "start up kit" off a friend and I have a question about the box. I bought a Kenwood Head unit...

Kenwood 600 watt amp...

And 2 Kenwood 12" subs in a cheaply made box...

Got it all for 150 bucks. Now the first question I have is, it's all going into a 91 Eclipse, and that thing is tiny. On top of the limited space I have, my wife says I can't take up the whole hatchback area, and we agreed to half. But this would make the box dimesions 11" x 11". I came up with a slant-front box that will allow the subs to fit, but this puts the internal volume at 1.2 cubic feet. The factory reccomends 1.5. So, would 2 make the recomended space 3', or will they work together in the same space. And is the amp big enough to push both of them in this smaller box?

I listen to just about all types of music, and I am not looking to rattle my wheels off, just a nice full sound. I have 4 - 6.5" Pioneers in the doors and the back of the car, but don't know the model.

Wow huge first post batman! Any advice would be awesome //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks

ok, so while that frees up some options, it also makes more questions...

Again, new, so don't club me too hard if this is a DUMB question... can I attach the amp to the box if I come up with a cool design, or will the sub beat the hell out it?

tell the wife the HALF thing only works in the case of a divorce, she should get the point then u can use all the space.

LMAO

Well, that may start the proceedings in which I would get all the trunk space, and she would get half //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

don't mount it to the box unless you have no other option.

yes you are capable of mounting the amp to the sub box....people do it all the time, but it is best to add a piece of wood to the side you are mounting the amp, it's called a "beauty face."

that way you are not penetrating the actual box with screws...but if you have to...spread some silicone AFTER predrilling the holes for the screws, that way you get a sealed screw.

but there is always ways to mount the amps in "inconspicuous" places. Just gotta get creative.

Was just thinking that, because I will have a void in between the seat and the box that would hide the amp... maybe I will be sneaky and add a false floor to trunk so I can flush mount it.

here's a pic of my trunk, may give you some ideas of other places to mount the amp:

Now you're gettin' creative!!!

false floor installs are great! But it might be wise to use a fan to cool that thing down if you do a flush mount! You gotta let those amps breath!

take a picture of the box you want to use and your trunk and post it. It would help very much on coming up with a design...

Maybe I will even get bored enough to design you a box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for the pic... my trunk doesn't have a void like that on the sides though, I will have to come up with something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
