So im going to be buying my first new setup soon, and im curious to see what you guys would recommend. im not looking for a super expensive system at the moment. i have a 2000 volvo v70xc (its a wagon). I was talking to a guy at the local car audio store, and he recomended a kenwood excelon kac-x20 amp (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17676). for a sub he recomended an alpine 12" in a ported box. he also said what ever amp i decided to go with, it needed a fast ______ (forget what he said, basically meaning how fast the amp restores itself after the amp sends the power to the subs)

i dont plan on buying a head unit for a little, and when i do it will be an in dash dvd/multimedia player.

what are you trying to accomplish, spl or sq? and whats your budget?
im sorry, what do you mean by spl/sq? lol i feel like a tard.

for a budget im looking at around $500 for sub(s), and an amp. can go over a little but id like to keep it around there. also its probly going to have to include instal fee's because i've never done car audio before

looking for good spl while keeping a pretty decend quality. i listen to mostly rock/metal if that makes a difference on an amp

oh, had that in 2 posts ago:

Why not trying to install it yourself? You will be able to get decent stuff for 500 dollars if you do it yourself.

If you have to pay for an install then not so much

Where in PA are you?

Exactly, if you need help, we're here for a reason :p Lots of nice guys on this website willing to help

Im in Lancaster County, PA. Im sure i could do it myself. i build computers and am very good with electronics, but thats just so much money and ive never really worked with car electronics. is there any really good guides/tutorials out that can explain it very well?

Thats exactly how I was, but now I can't wait to get a new setup and install everything myself (I just got a new system so have to wait prolly till next summer) I'm pretty sure there is a "how to" tutorial on here some where..
