Help me get some bass without a sub...suggestions needed.

Hi Everyone,

Well its been a while since i last posted here. I am currently running an all alpine system in my car right now. Its a 1993 Acura Legend Coupe.

I have

Alpine MRD M500 Amp

Alpine 10" Type R Sub

Alpine Type R 6.5 Components

Alpine Type R 6x9 Rears

Alpine V12 4 Channel Amp (F340 I think)

2004 Pioneer Deck (mid range...fairly decent)

As of now, the system has ample bass with the sub. For other reasons, I would like to get rid of it and just work on the 4 speakers and amp setup. Now coming from a Bose system, I had a ton of bass with just the four speakers. I have no idea what it is (you guys probably do) but Bose systems have a great amount of bass for just speakers (although they sound like poo sometimes).

The only thing I have come close to in this department is an old Pioneer Premeir amp and an old set of kicker 6x9s....that setup for some reason sounded like little subs. this alpine system though sounds so thin and flat without the sub.

So what I am looking for is maybe some amp and speaker recomendations for the 6x9s maybe (I would rather keep the 6.5s in the door) that would give me a better bottom end, like Bose. Someone had mentioned that aftermarket speakers have a flatter response and that bose amps have a huge loundess setting, but I am not too tech savy in that area.

Thanks for any recomendations! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Well, it will be a little more work...but I would recommend a 2-way active setup up front with some mid-bass for rear fill.

Check out:

http://www.reaudio.com (XXX Mids) ...they do not offer the component set... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Then I would recommend fiberglassing some custom door pods, sealed at about .25-.3 cubes per side.

For in-car, I actually recommend the XXX Mids b/c they are 2ohm and you can give them more power. Throw about 200rms per side on them.

As for tweeters, look into some good component tweeters. Check out Madisound, I recommend Vifa autosound tweeters.

You need a small amp to power the tweeters, they are 6ohm...you only need 30-50rms per side.

You will also need an active 3-way bandpassable crossover.

So, to me...this is about the only proper way to go about things...wanting great bass output without a subwoofer. May want to look into 8's, but they'll require larger sealed enclosures up front...hard to integrate into kicks/pods.

Hey, look into this.

http://www.wavescaraudio.com/htmls/products01.htm

I just picked up one of these for $115 and am going to try it as soon as it arrives. What it does is FILTER OUT low bass, and generates midbass harmonics which combine and "psychoacoustically" recreate the original low bass content - but louder. So in effect your midbasses can be turned up more w/less distortion b/c the unit removes the most demanding frequencies (subbass)... but you still end up with the sense of plenty of subbass. Sounds interesting, read the reviews that they have on the site. I found one of these on eBay and will post a review after I mess around with it.

At least one of the most popular ipod minispeakers uses this technology.

NGSM13: Thanks for the detailed response. The XXX comps sound very nice. Maybe

I should try mounting the Adire speakers in the rear before going with such a detailed setup in the front. I would be up for getting rid of the alpines though....I'm just not sure if I could afford that kind of setup in the front. It sound like the install would be close to $400. So would the Adire speakers be good running off the alpine 4 channel amp or should I hit them with more power?

Also, My speaker holes in the back are 6x9 so would I want to build some sort of enclosure around the basket of the Adire speakers? I would have to fabricate some sort of custom mounting application as it is to get them in I'm sure.

Greg: Those things sound great! I would love to hear your review on them. I am not looking for sub bass....just a some nice low end that can fill in where the mids taper off. Keep us in the loop.

SSS: I might be able to fit some 8's in there. It all depends on the mounting depth. I do not want to jeopardize the structural integrity of my cross braces in the back. Bu an 8" driver would be perfect for what I am looking for no doubt....I just never thought you could put them in the car without being too loud.

Thanks everyone! Keep the resonses coming.
