Got my alternator today.(Need help fast.)

Here is the issue you guys are going to run into when trying to get a free product for testing purposes. If you were an accredited source for testing, they might be more inclined to submit a sample for testing, but to be brutally honest here, you guys are just a few Joe's on a forum that are willing to try them out. I know that would be good for the other members to see a real world in car test, but it is highly unscientific and I would doubt that the MFG would like to see this type of unscientific testing published from a normal guy such as yourselves.
Now what they probably would rather see is a more scientific testing facility that had specialized testing equipment like the stuff MechMan has at his disposal at the PowerMaster facility. I doubt that Rob (DC) or Dom (Irragi) would submit their products to Matt for him to test though. I know I would not trust anything but an impartial 3rd party test.

If you still feel like doing the testing and cannot afford to buy them yourself, why don't you two guys simply swap alts for a week, that way both of you could try out the other brand and get some feedback from each other.

lol im far from average joe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

rob said earlier in this thread he would grab an alt ad go to mechmans for a head to head test never heard mechman say come one lets do it...If they do though I want to see vids of rpms and what amps its putting out at said rpm..

okay that would be cool but how would that serve in real world application?

take amplifers for instance companies rate amplifiers correct... now take say 5 5000 watt at 1 ohm... your going to tell me that all 5 are going to do the same power.... just because something is rated and has test done on it to prove it doesnt mean thats going to happen in real world

ive tested my my Mechman's alt in various real world testin and well yeah //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Well the tests you are talking about are far from scientific, meaningful testing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Question... Would you guys rather have a 200 amp alt that only does 150-180 amp that cost $189 or would you want a 200 amp alt that does what it says for $500+ ????

I would rather have the $189....

well if that is the only test they would be willing to do to show that they are not the same I would take it but would rather see some results done on car preferrable the same car..

Well an alt that only does 150~180A would not be a 200A alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

But, to answer your question, I would probably buy the 180A alt for 1/3 the price, all things else equal.

I agree with this guy..

idle voltage has alot to do with it too, the cheaper alt may only do 75-100amp at idle where as the more expensive quality alt would be 150-175amp at idle. This happens alot with those cheap *** ebay alts. They just cram wire in it and yea it has a higher max amperage but idle suffers.

Both my cars use the same alt and when i talked to mechman i asked if they used a stock case as I knew just cramming it with wire isnt the answer, he said no they use a larger case that bolts on the factory place and does 150amps at idle, 90% of companies will just cram it full of wire, then you have a weak idle voltage and it runs hot as shit.

Well damn, I was trying to find somewhere to test a "high output" alt for me last year but couldn't find anywhere that could do it. It turns out I live about 10 miles from Mechman and didn't even know it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
