good type X plan???

Hey everyone I just joined and I've been folowing the site a little about the alpine type X subs. Does this sound like a good plan? I'm looking to run 2 12 inch Type X's in a SEALED box. It seems like people say they are made to best suite a sealed box NOT a ported one. Going in a 2000 Grand Prix and am looking for a sub that will sound good in a sealed box. One question I have about the box is do the subs need to be in a seperate box or can I put 2 of them in a 4 cu.ft. box? I'm looking to send each 1200 RMS @ 2 ohm from the new Kenwood Excelon 2400 D monoblock amps. Each sub having their own amp. Thank for the help, I think this sub and amp combo should look pretty nice too!

I'd put them in separate chambers. How about a Hifonics BXi2607D amp instead? Allows you to get two dual 4 Ohm models and wire them for 1 ohm at the amp - about 2500W RMS.

The 4 cu. ft sealed box would be excellent for those subs. However, I suggest you add some type of bracing to the box if there isnt any already, perhaps a center divider for some support. Any who, with 2 cubes per sub and 1200watts for those bad boys you should be getting all kinds of nasty with some serious lows. Should be pretty sick. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Im not a big fan of Hifonics nothing really against them tho. The big plan is the back of the box will be plexi with full mirror sides and bottom in the box to show off the Type X magnets with blue lights. The subs will be facing into the back seats. Thats kind of the reason I'll prolly go with the Kenwood amps. Those have a blue led display for voltage and temp also. One amp behind each sub flush mounted with the floor. As for the pics Im still working on ideas and ordering equipment right now im still over seas. Ill be home in less than a month though!!!! Really leaning toward kenwood touchscreen double din head unit, Type X components front and rear and kenwood amps. I dont want like 5 different brands. Money for sure no problem I've been deployed for 16 months. Should be a bangin Grand Prix, any other ideas welcome havnt ordered any thing yet.

carefull i had a buddy that had the same setup but with 2 1000 watt alpine amps... his spiders tore... his box was right in the middle of spec range 'd go with the minimum recommended size... the subs are low-end heavy as it is, and this way you will be able to use more power without as much fear of mechanical failure

cotjones, did he have them in a ported box??? ive heard lots that they don't performe well in ported boxes. I havn't heard any thing bad about them in a sealed box. As far as the spiders tearing, was that due to clipping, distortion, or inproper gain control settings? I'd find it hard to tear a spider in a properly set sealed box. Any one else had problems with them in a sealed box with about 1200 RMS going to them. I'd have to believe gain control is a big reason people blow subs to begin with.

I would give them a bit more power then that if you really want them to sound great. I had to give the one here 1300 min just to get it to repond good, and it sounded great on 1500

I've always thought a good rule of thumb is to send a sub 1/2 the power it can handle for RMS, so should I be looking for a different amp that will send those Type X 12's more like 1500 RMS each?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Thanks for the help guys I cant wait to get home from this deployment and drive a real car!!!

no but he had them sealed in about 3.5 cubes... and they shared the same chamber... but on seperate amps.... the most likely explanation is that the subs were in too big of a box, allowing the sub to reach mechanical failure before burning the coil... and the gains were set a little high so he was getting some clipping..

the spiders seem to be the weakest part of the cone assembly, the cone shure as hell won't break that easy, and the surround is pretty sturdy too

actually the type-x's recomended specs are very flexible, for a person's prefference...

the 10's accept 500-1000 watts and sealed enclosures from .5 - 1 cubes...

this doesn't mean you can do whatever you want... (a .5 cube box at 500, er a 1 cube box at 1000...) it is a guidline... the bigger the box, the more efficient the sub/ the less power you need to make the sub reach it's mechanical limits...(torn spiders)...

so in my opinion, if you plan on giving them 1000+... give them a MAXIMUM of .75 cubes a peice...

if you do go with the bigger box, you will have the KILLER lows, but wimpy higher bass... some music won't sound good... and they will be easier to blow...

smaller box, will give you a more even responce, and with 1000+ you will still have the killer lows

and DEF. put them in separate chambers...

Do you think if I put each sub in a 1.5 cu. ft. box and send them 1200 watts rms that I'd be happy with this set up? The box would obviously be 3 cu. ft. total. I plan on having prolly Type X 6.5 components too that will have about a 100 rms going to each corner front and rear. So I think I can afford to give up a little with a 3 cu. ft. box and gain it back with powered components. I'd like to stick with all Alpine and Kenwood equipment but not decided yet one components, I dont know if I can find better for the money. Im also lookin at a Focal, or possibly MB Quart for 6.5's I appreciate the help. Also since I havn't bought ne thing yet any other ideas for a good sub that will performe well sealed with about 1000 to 1500 RMS is welcome, Im not brand picky. Looking to stick with 12's.

yeah you'll like the way it sounds no doubt... it'll slam the lows like a hammer... but be carefull cause it won't be hard to blow them

LOL, like I tell others, If you have a problem blowing subs and can't keep your hands off the gains, HIDE the D#$N gain control knob!!! EX. good location, the trunk!!! For those who have no control on the gain control!! LOL
